What were the results of the two employee surveys taken. The one that was anonymous but you had to give the last 4 numbers of your social and the dept you work in ?

Doesn't sound to anonymous to me

The hospital is not censoring posts, you morons. And free speech does not apply to a private website.

So now the hospital controls this site? You have lost your ever loving mind. I've had posts flagged. Certain words and nobody knows them all will get you posts flagged. It isn't the hospitals CEO. If you think that then let me let you bid on some ocean front property I have.

It seems the Hospital is now censoring all posts that don’t speak well of the management

Thank you for your comprehensive, fact-filled assessment of how our hospital works. If the CEO is a *****, that's her personality and management style. If her supervisors are satisfied, then her staff has to deal with it or find other employment. IMO, a hospital job, particularly ER/OR, takes guts and is no place for shrinking violets, snowflakes, or anyone who cannot handle the word 'No'.

Just heard from silent dogwood. They have been cut off from posting by goashe. They are “under review”. I have reread all of silent dogwoods post and saw not libel, slander or lies. I saw much worse said by others. Apparently the hospital administration has power over the news media and no respect for freedom of speech. I am surprised goashe folded so quickly. I am not surprised the Iron Maiden reacted like that, dictatorship can not tolerate any criticism. If you see no more of my posts, you will know I have been cut off too.

Also, many Critical Access Hospitals like Ashe that are successful have wealthy donors giving money to their foundations. Ashe does have some, but nothing like some of the others in the region. AMH must rely solely on their ability to generate revenue and the support of the county. I am sure they also have some grants that help, but that money is temporary and you never know if those funds are available from one year to the next, and they take considerable about of resources to submit a proposal. The point is, Novant and Lambeth have been able to give the hospital hope against some very harsh circumstances.

Also, the old way of doing things was always throw more staff and money at a problem. A nurse would complain about being overworked well then you would hire a new nurse. There are standards of care now that show evidence based staffing per patient population. Novant has been using this in their other facilities and I don't see why they would not apply those here. Novant has policies and standards for their hospitals, Ashe is not an exception to those.

Heels, you are correct, when the Quorum management agreement was coming up for renewal in 2013 the Board went through a exhaustive search and interview process to find a "partner" who would be able to not only provide management expertise but also bring clinical expertise to the community. Standing on the outside looking in it appears that this has occurred. The Leadership team at AMH brought a number of initiatives begun under the previous leadership to fruition.

In answer to the comprehensive audit question, The Federal and State governments, through the Medicare and Medicaid programs require that the financial operations of the entity be examined and an opinion delivered by a certified public accountant utilizing the appropriate accounting standards for the organization type. AMH has those audits performed by an independent outside entity on an annual basis. As a registered not-for- profit in the state of North Carolina, those audits are available for public inspection, at the office of the registered agent. It is also possible to review the Federal tax filings of Ashe Memorial and any other Federal not-for-profit through a variety of sources online, guidestar being one which comes to mind. The Federal tax form is form 990 with its various attachments.

As Heels and others have mentioned AMH has recently completed a comprehensive clinical and operational audit by a private outside entity called The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission is one of several independent organizations allowed to inspect and survey healthcare facilities in the US for compliance with Federal standards and Regulations. The triennial surveys are conducted on an unannounced basis by a team of inspectors who review not only policies and procedures but actually track the path of a patient through the clinical systems to verify that all aspects of the care process are being delivered in accordance with established standards. There are also a variety of other surveys and inspections which AMH undergoes on a regular basis in such areas as the provision of Mammography services, Laboratory services, safe practices surrounding underground fuel storage tanks, to name a few.

I believe that AMH management has made at least an annual presentation to the County Commissioners on the "state of the hospital" providing, in open session, a review of the operations and financial performance of the organization.

I'm unclear what other means of transparency you'd like to see. AMH is a private organization, the Board meetings are not open to the public or the press, as a private organization AMH is under no obligation to provide much of the information they are providing through the various media outlets in the community.

Others have mentioned who the owners of AMH are, the entity was created as a not-for-profit stock corporation, many years ago, over the years the Organizations charter and Articles of Incorporation have been updated and filed with the NC Secretary of State, those documents are available through the Secretary of States web site. The shareholders have several obligations to perform, one is to choose, from among themselves a Board of Directors to serve as the Governing Body for the Organization. This is accomplished during the annual meeting of the shareholders. this used to be in November, I honestly don't know when the meetings are held now as I have not received notice of the meetings in the past several years. The annual shareholder meetings are open to the shareholders, and traditionally a summery of the prior year's operations is provided by a member of management. An election is held to select Board members, as approximately 1/3 of the Director's terms expires each year. While there is a nominating committee who suggests a slate for the election, nominations are and have been selected from the floor, for qualified candidates. Shareholders are allowed to vote up to 100 personally owned shares and may proxy vote any number of shares for other share holders if proper documentation is provided. The shareholders must approve any changes to the Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws. The shareholders must specifically approve the sale or transfer of any real property owned by the corporation. To my knowledge no shareholder vote has ever been taken to transfer the ownership of any of the real property to Novant or any other entity operating as a surrogate for Novant.

I consider the Airport the biggest waste of money the county has.

I think Ashe Park and Family Central are still needed by the county and are good investments. AMH is vital, lose it and you'll lose a good number of the tourists that the county depends upon.

Lot of contradictions in this thread by the complainers.

I know for a fact how many were biding on the management of AMH. There were not many organizations willing to tackle the problems that AMH was facing. The board made the best decision at the time.

Also, audits and inspections are ongoing in Healthcare. The county has zero power to audit the hospital unless they have a contract with the county . Audits are completeed depending on those entities they have contracts with. That would be State, Federal, and private organizations. These happen regularly.

Now concerning staffing. AMH just received their recertification from Joint commission. If there were any irregularities in staffing that caused patient care issues, there would have been findings.
