Where in the world did sharknado get the impression I supported Mochen.

I generally do not vote for Democrats. But I will make an exception for Bucky. The vote for Sheriff should be non-partisan. The Sheriff is not a legislator. He makes no laws, and has very little discretion in what laws he will or will not enforce. If he does not enforce a law the way you think he should, you can file a complaint with the State Attorney General. The political affiliation of the Sheriff should not make a difference.

The overwhelming majority of Ashe County Dems are FAR from “liberal.” They’re mostly FDR throwbacks - register Dem because granddad did. I don’t think Melba Jones burned many bras, nor do I think Bucky Absher logged over 200 Grateful Dead concerts.

Also, the county sheriff doesn’t cast votes, so runkle’s sweet point is moot.

I never vote for Republicans. You see, I get this vision of how they cast their vote...
Bush 2, Trump, Ryan, McConnell, Gomert...
And, bringing it on home--Tillis, McCrory, Foxx...
Oh, and let's not forget the clown show right here in Ashe County.

I never vote for Democrats. You see, I get this vision of how they cast their vote... Obama, Hillary, Pelosi, Maxine Waters.

If Absher is a Republican on November 6, I might vote for him. Otherwise, no cigar.

Conservatism and Fiscal Responsibility begins at home.

From the Absher interview, two points seemed glaring.

From the beginning, the new jail was touted as a business venture that would generate income by housing inmates from here and other areas. Without the artificial economy of mountain property values and taxation, it probably wouldn't exist. It was amazing and depressing at the same time when my wife and I looked it over during the open house. We both compared it to our childhood living conditions when we had outdoor toilets. The jail and the courthouse seem palatial and out of place compared to much of the county.

Criminals living better (except for freedom) than we did for years, and at great expense. Unfortunately, who has any real answers? At least socially acceptable.

Point two was, “The updating of this equipment can be done through grants, which will keep the cost to a minimum for taxpayers.” What? For those who have struggled and prepared for the future outside government, education, and military careers, that is a slap in the face. That is a popular mantra for those in government careers who have known nothing else. Tax money is tax money. Successful government grant writers also have/had great careers. I know one.

Taxed since the '60's, an amazing percentage of our income went to all forms of taxes. Now retired, due to living below our means to prepare for old age, we are now even taxed on 85% of our SS income. This years IRS bill was much worse than local property tax. It never ends.

I am pro-law enforcement and appreciate their service. I have no real preference in voting for the office. The new sheriff will continue with the same old formulas. True community service would seem to dictate any former sheriff would happily mentor any present sheriff in any way possible.

Enough dreaming, it's a mad scramble, for all tax supported positions. Those positions are about the only game in town worth playing, and the house is sweating and looking for more ways to generate income.

I'm still very concerned about Absher choosing to retire, I'd rather have a steady hand. Politicians tell you almost anything and you have to remember this is a political office. Didn't Williams tell us all he'd serve out his term if elected, and yet most didn't believe him and ultimately he retired.

I'm still leaning to vote for Howell. We need some stability there.

I however probably will not be voting for Sands, I think it's time for change there too. I have to think more on it.

These folks that get on here and post party above all else are just as bad as that crazy Liberal from Wilkes. We need to back the candidates we think will look out for the citizens of Ashe ......first....instead of themselves. I am a lifelong Democrat. I am voting for at least 2 Republicans for BOC. I am voting for Absher for Sherriff. I know and trust Sands, McNeill and Absher. The last BOC seat is undecided. I know and trust both Blackburn and Dix. Maybe something will come up between now and November to help make up my mind.

Monty, I’m all for new school board members, but who else has raised a hot p**n star from our area? The qualified individuals for the job seem to so far be very limited. I suggest everyone get out and encourage their neighbors to tell their hot daughters to put their ****ies online.

Dopey, you and Potashe are hysterical. Previously you partisan morons were doing all you could to discredit Howell and trying to sell the county republicans on the idea of electing a Floridian for sheriff. Since Mochen lost by a land slide ( as I told you would happen), now you are all about carrying the party nomination to the polls and doing everything possible to keep a democrat from being elected.

While I personally subscribe deeply to the conservative platform, I have grown entirely disgusted with the political parties’s SOP’s. Their motive to place party above country has forced me to call them out on their treason to the constitution and this nation. It’s time we finally follow Washington’s advice and tell the political parties to f^^^ off.

Haha Ashes, Howell is the one who called and got his neighbor shot by Hoppy et al. Also, Absher did not retire willfully the first time.

Ashes supporting Howell is a HUGE red flag. Absher it is.

I think HOWELL also. As a conservative there is Probably a better chance of not getting a sniper in my yard with him.

I think Howell. One has already retired once and the other still has some miles left on him and could possibly serve for a number of terms. For consistency, I don't think we need a one shot wonder.

Sassy, I don't disagree with you concerning the actions each candidate will take on their own. As we all know supporters of the candidates will not be bound by the desires of the candidates themselves. I expect a full assault by supporters on both sides against their opponent. It will start with whispers about "how long will they serve?" to "the Truth" behind why he is not working for the department now.

Each candidate will then get a chance to disavow these statements came form them personally and we'll be off to the races exploring the connections between the candidate and the supporters making the whisper claims.

I do not think we have to worry about either of them using smear tactics. I think both will run campaigns that accentuate their positives.

I know and like both Absher and Howell. I hope they both run positive campaigns that don't resort to using smear tactics.

Jack did you read the final statements of the interview? He stated he is willing to serve multiple terms if elected.
