Who really gives a crap about beans in a jar, or the black squirrels. The weather is something we have no control over. We will take what we get and deal with it...
The left can control it and the climate too if you will let them tax you all they want.

There is a very strong El Nino this year. It causes a wetter and often snowier winter. 2009-10 was a strong El Nino year and we had a bad winter in Ashe.

There might be a rough correlation between August fog and Winter snow due to the amount of moisture available in the atmosphere because you need moisture to have a fog. It would make an interesting thesis for a graduate student in Geography, Weather, or Climate. Moisture and drought are both self reinforcing to a degree.

Yes for each fog you put a bean in the jar, a big thick fog, a big bean, a little ground fog, a small bean. It's suppose to translate into big snows and minor snows, but not snizzle or ice.

When we find out the bean count, let's get together and drink a beer for each bean to celebrate.

Careful backwater, you will get the Health Department to close down Hardees with that kind of talk. :)

I think ocm if one lives out in or around Creston your bean jar might be very accurate.

I also have not seen a mink or a weasel so far this year. Usually I see them between Lansing and Whitetop/Pond Mountain.

Dog, actually it was very close.
I'm not a climatologist, but I suspect the number of August fogs is determined in part by the general jet stream flow, moisture in the environment, and the temperature of the Pacific (El Nino, La Nina). More moisture in August might tend to hang around through the winter.
I'm not actually suggesting correlation is causation.
