I am, and I'm just saying in general we all have to get approval to leave Ashe County and get paid for travel expenses. So basically, I don't get to go to many road games anymore.

nham I thought you were a sports reporter. Why would they want you to cover the Keith Simmons story?

Could the Jefferson Post be considered a pamphlet? There's not enough of it anymore to use a single issue as a charcoal starter. Wow, what a wealth of information!

I dont think not paying property taxes falls into the tax evasion. Evading taxes, youcan go to jail. Dont pay property taxes, they just confiscate the property and no jail time. (Although, Average I know where you were going, just felt like clarifying that point). Of course when the federal government has frozen all assets, I dont think the town or county can confiscate anything for property taxes.

Why waste your time covering it for the Post when you can wait one day and read the story in the Mountain Times then write your own story for the Post.

Simmons withheld federal and state taxes from employees' checks and the money was never sent in. I think that is tax fraud but I'm not sure. I'm certain it's illegal, though. He also continued to deduct insurance premiums from employees' checks, who carried a spouse or family, after all policies had been cancelled. That's probably insurance fraud; I'm sure that's illegal too. He's pleaded not guilty. Yeah, good luck with that !

I see in the JP where Black Diamond is listed as not paying their town of WJ taxes. Let's go after Simmons for tax evasion, too.

Depends on whether or not the news reporter gets paid for his travel or not, at least for the Post. I doubt he will head down without getting his expenses covered. Unfortunately, we have to get approval to leave Ashe County now, sometimes we don't get approval. Who knows, guess we'll find out.

Is Simmons trial actually going to start next week or will there be delays? Are the Jefferson Post or the Mountain Times going to send someone to Charlotte to cover it?

sir A@# alot.... I am so tired of debating this subject. Just because you are married to someone doesn't mean you know everything your mate does. If you trust someone which you should do in marriage....then lots of things go "unquestioned", he pulled the wool over people eyes who he didnt even know and people who worked beside him many hours per day....It is easier to get away with things from people who trust you....alot of times their are "no questions" comming from the ones who believe in you....His wife is a great person and is a victim in all of this. Your opinion is wrong....and abusive towards a family who has been through enough pain.

If my husband was comng home with new "paid for" cars and buying new homes etc....I think I would smell something "rotten in Denmark". Even if you don't know exactley what is going on , you KNOW that rags to riches, short of winning the lottery isn't happening.

This sure has been an interesting read. I don't have but one thought to add. Obviously he was a really good con man and he fooled a lot of people, including his employees and the investors, but I've got to wonder why the old adage didn't apply, especially to the investors. "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

When investors are involved, they usually turn over the assets to a receivership. They can auction, or sell assets in any manner they see fit, to recover the most for the investors. They may also sue those that may have assisted the perpetrators. Of course they (the attorneys) extract their pound of flesh along the way.
