According to the state website, the social services board members are

County DSS Board:
Margaret Roten, Chair
Terry Sexton, Vice Chair
Jim Hartley
Roy Elmore
Judy Porter-Poe

If memory serves correct, Roten retired from social services and Sexton was at one time employed by social services.

Anyone ever look at the social services board? Recognize anyone as a dismissed former employee?

That makes a lot of sense.

We have to really clean house next time. Instead of just lip service on here.

So, the article in the Ashe MT essentially says Roark doesn't trust Donna's numbers. Yet he couldn't find time to meet with her to see how she arrived at those numbers? Or he couldn't read what she presented? And whose integrity do you trust more--Roark's or Donna's? He is a joke.

With all the established "water points" on Cranberry Springs Road - the Deep Gap department rarely needs another department to back it up.

This needs to be left alone. No one on Cranberry Springs wants to change departments.

Were you to listen to the Fleetwood presentation on 3/16 none of the hose jockeys gave any evidence only that someone took away our money and part of district in 2007. They fail to mention the iso rating difference between fleetwood and deep gap. The manager was told to get with the attorney and get an answer to who what when and why. The chairman was ready to vote and give them back the district like he was king of the land until stopped by the manager.

If you listen to the presentation of the Deep gap in Mondays meeting you will note that the county attorney nor the manager have an answer nor was one offered. There is a mess with these hose jockeys when fleetwood is not even sent to back up deep gap yet departments 15 miles away are sent. They sat there monday and did nothing.

There is someone else pulling the stings of these 3. Roark can't put a complete sentence together, much less lead. Its brutal to watch. Seriously, he drops the IQ of everyone in the room when he speaks.

I always thought Jeff Rose was a courageous and honorable person. I don;t know him anymore. I just wonder what happened to him to make him lose his scruples.

Basking, While I agree that Miller has made his fair share of poor decisions, I would have to say in this case he is on the money. No one should have to pay higher insurance premiums because one fire department tries to give erroneous information to a board that eats it up and tries to play it up for the cameras.

I expected as much from Roark and his tag along Richardson, but I had hoped that Rose would make decisions on his own based on information provided to the board. Sadly, I am disappointed that he is not his own man and it makes me wonder why he chooses to go along with the other two who are clearly idiots.

Just as a refresher. Maybe we should hold Richardson and Rose accountable to what they told the Jefferson Post.

Why he's running: Rose is running for office because he would like to have more clarity and transparency from the Board and an open line of communication between the County Manager, Commissioners, county employees and residents with concerns ideas or assistance that they may offer.

Rose would like to see accountability from the commissioners to Ashe County residents helping to bring confidence in the board to serve Ashe County. He will try not to raise taxes, is for a balanced budged and using common sense approaches to ideas and issues brought before the Board.

To support local economic development, tourism and job growth, Rose says the county needs to bring sustainable jobs with fair wages to Ashe County either with tax incentives or other means necessary to make Ashe County more business oriented for job growth. Rose believes tourism is another important aspect to Ashe County and needs to be advertised as much as possible through various means.

Rose feels the Board of Commissioners should always be accountable for their actions and should be able to explain to the public in detail why they made their decisions and the actions taken.

Why he's running: If elected, Richardson will continue to dedicate his service to the people of Ashe County and maintain open communications with all citizens.

Richardson will be focused on the following issues:

Encouraging industrial growth, producing employment opportunities.

Establish career opportunities and incentives for Ashe County natives.

Incorporate fundamentally sound decisions by the Board of Commissioners, which will economically benefit the county.

Support and acknowledge services given to the county by its teachers and law enforcement.

Maintain programs enabling the elderly to live independently in their own homes.

The manager is a puppet. He is what they wanted. Someone that does as told when told. And you are right, he is going to go along with the 3 to keep his job.

Its obvious the manager is in the chairman's pocket. Hes no fool as long as he plays ball with the three he will keep his job. The question I have is who feeding the county manager information? I still smell a rat on that social services board and a witch hunt for Donna Weaver. And its not Judy Poe.

Roark is so arrogant and disrespectful of the electorate that he openly talks about meeting 2 - 2 + 1. This subverts the will of the people for an open and transparent government. Also it means that Rhodes and Sands only hear what he wants to tell them. All commissioners are entitled to the same information at the same time. His actions deprive us of and open and honest discussion of issues facing the county.

STICK A FORK IN ROARK. HE IS DONE

On a side note. The Ashe Vision 2015 is a great idea. If they can get enough private backing they can force the boards hand on certain issues.
