Cost to rent a county owned building seems to be a little unfair

Its still not Profit. It used to be county owned but was turned over to the Non profit. I think $41K per year for that large of a space is just fine.
"Mount Jefferson Child Development Center will lease 6,178 square-feet in Ashe County’s Family Central at a rate of $7.32 per-square-foot after negotiating a price with County Manager Sam Yearick and being approved by the Ashe County Board of Commissioners. The rate per-square-foot was negotiated down from the original county proposed rate of $9.15, equalling an annual cost of $57,390.90. Under the negotiated rate the annual cost of rent will be $41,464.35."

Isn't Mt. Jefferson a for profit agency? They aren't a developmental Day program or school, right? I'm wondering why someone is stirring the pot? Could someone be upset that the county only provided them with a short reprieve from their higher rent? I could be wrong but their reduced rent went away on January 1, 2019.

Your guess is as good as mine. You charge private organizations rent, I don't know why you wouldn't.

Sorry Heels, you are right. West Jefferson is owned by the Board of Education. LTP made the deal with the school board not the county.

No, A simple lookup on the Tax maps show that West Jefferson is owned by the School Board. Jack and I are correct.

Family Central is owned by the county. The old West Jefferson school building is county owned as well. The director(DW) made a deal when she occupied 1/3 of the building to keep a certain amount of slots for teachers children and give them a discount as well and in return her rent for her third would be $1 a year. She also pays 1/3 of the utilities. Mt. Jefferson has secured a place to build its new building but in the mean time is being asked to pay quite a bit in rent every month until they can move. (Not sure of the exact amount) Someone above said $4000 a month.

I think a better question is where has the money gone that Mount Jefferson was going to use to build a building. A couple years ago it was a done deal, yet now they are scrambling to find a place?

Heels is correct, the school system still owns the West Jefferson school property. However the superintendent very well should know who is occupying its buildings.

The information is only partially correct.
Generations is a county run service. Its kind of silly to charge itself rent.
It was my understanding that West Jefferson is still owned by the School system. Most of it houses the School Systems Child Development program so I would assume that they still own it. Learning Through Play is renting the 1/3 you speak of. If I am correct they would have the contract with the school board and not the county. I could be wrong so someone could correct me on this.
Its up to the commissioners/manager to set the rent for family central. Its in their right to do so.

Family Central isn't owned by the school system the property was transferred to the County when the new high school was built.
I think the old West Jefferson School was also transferred though I'm not sure on that one.
As such the Superintendent of Schools would have no say in their renting......
You might also ask what 1/3rd of the utilities on one of those buildings is.....

Tabs | Posted 8:37 pm, 01/16/2019 | If you want to rent space at Family Central call the County manager. I think they charge by the square footage.

I hate to break it to you but the joke is you. You likely need a sleeve given all the information you leaked. No one can really answer your question without all the information. I gave you a great hint.

Why should you rent a room in a county building? There’s plenty of available office space for rent in the Jeffersons. What are you doing that’s so special to warrant renting from the county, at low cost, mind you?

So who would be in charge of these county buildings that are being rented out? Also is there a way for the public to know how much it costs to rent a room or rooms in these county buildings?

No one is supporting me and my family except me and my husband. My four children are all out on their own. One with a master's degree (making much more than you im sure. 2 with bachelors degrees. We have 5 wonderful grandchildren. You realize what assuming does right? What does my question have to do with anyones poor life choices? I have a great life. You however have very obviously made poor life choices since you seem to get a high from putting people down and speaking nonsense about things you know nothing about. Now if you would like to address my question that would be great. If not, then just go back to your sad life and leave me alone.

Life isn’t fair, mother. It’s not fair that me and other hard working citizens have to support you and your eight kids, but the law requires such, so we deal and move on. You’re paying the price for making poor life choices. Welcome to reality. You’re welcome, btw.
