County Commissioner

Cuppy you got me, I run a spell check on anything I send out as I often type faster than my brain worked. Not sure how a C replaced a S but you got me.

Yes I am a Real Estate Broker and have been for about 30 years. Here in N. C. for about 9 years and then in Ca. the rest of the time. I was also an Appraiser in Ca. but decided not to go for it here. I grew up on farms in Joplin Mo. but picked living here as it is so beautiful with less humidity, plus I like the people.

We are most times smarter than some people think we are but not as smart as we think we are. I knew full well the chance I was taking going on this site but I wanted to get as many opinions as I could. I knew that I would be torn down by some but was willing to be ripped apart to get a better feel for what is wanted.

You don't have to be a perfect person to run for an office, you just have to feel that you are attempting to help.

I was told by a friend that I more than likely would not win even though he though I was a good fit for the job. I told him that he was probably right but I sure would not win if I did not try.

She is real retired. look at the jefferson post on line and you will find her as a candidate.

Do we really want a commissioner that can't even spell "site"? I think not.

This is one of the dumbest people I've seen on here. Who is she really? She's too stupid to be a realtor and has to be a gag.

Tell the other candidates we are waiting for them nancy.

Nancy, save yourself the trouble. You are never going to win

secretagent, you made such a good point that I now understand so thank you it is much appreciated as that was what I was asking for.

undergdog2 thanks I think. Yes I knew that coming on this cite might cause some problems for me but unless I find out what is on peoples minds who are not currently on the government payroll I will never learn a thing about what is really wanted from the citizens.

The opinions you hear roaming the court house are much different than the one's you hear on this cite. The few who are running things are in charge of what happens to everyone.

If I had the guts to run then I must accept that there is a good chance I will not win. Not winning is OK if it in any way it gives a voice to more.

I would like for some of the other new candidates and old for that matter to have the guts to get on this site and come before us. I will have to give nancy credit for one thing, she did come before us.

There is a trend I am seeing in the piedmont of towns in financial straits contracting the counties to take over police protection. Towns as large a 15k residents have done so in the last couple of years. Is Ashe county prepared for this? One town in particular yancyville paid Catawba county for 2 years then stopped paying anything.

I know a lot of people that I like to sit down and have a cup of coffee with, and they care about the community. But that doesn't make them qualified to be in charge of anything. Heck, I doubt any president cared as much as carter did. That didn't help him in the end. I would rather someone that understands finance, comprehends civics, believes in personal rights, and is enough of an ***hole to put their foot down when need be, instead of letting every department talk them into needing more in the budget.

Fins, you got it. She does not understand the concept that I have spelled out here several times. Less money coming in to the County, less money available to be spent on services. Easy Easy Easy. As far as the gun thing, apparently she also does not understand what the word "concealed" means. It does not mean swagger around with a holster on your side to let everyone see you have a gun. It does not mean to wave it to threaten people. It does not mean to show it to your friends out in public. It means that you are licensed to carry a concealed weapon, loaded, in a CONCEALED manner; ie, no one can tell that you have it. When you need it, hopefully never, you can take it out and use it as it was intended to be used. The bad guys, the trouble makers, the nut jobs are all carrying anyway without the benifit of the background checks. They are the ones the public needs to fear. And not not just in Parks either.

My brothers and dad believe 100% in the right to carry arms and I consider them smart people. Much of my early life was spent enjoying trap shooting. I really want to understand why people feel such a strong need to carry a gun, so please tell me so I can understand. Is it just because you the right and we are losing so many rights? If that is it then I understand. I would thinking nothing about protecting my home and family if I needed to do it with a gun, but for me anyway I just don't feel a need to carry wherever I go, that's just me and I have the right to feel that way.

Yes it would be nice if we could pass a law that required everyone to be nice to each other but who will enforce it and who among us is so perfect that we should get the job of enforcing it? None of the laws passed so far have kept those who would do us harm from hurting us.

I would hope that if any of you sat down and had a cup of coffee with me that we would get along, that I would find merit in your ideas and you would do the same. Maybe I am wrong but I think we all just want a fair chance to get a little ahead in life. I think that even if I do not know all the answers that I would do my best to try and help the community that I care so much about. Perhaps you all just want things to stay the same and would rather not take a chance on a new person who you think is no better than what is there. I am not afraid to try and make a change and I have never thought I had all the answers but I still plan on trying to make a positive difference. Even if I brought about one small good change it is better than not trying at all.

I agree achs....nothing to be gained by beating up on her.Let's just hope that the other candidates have a better grasp on things!

Be a bit nicer to Nancy, at least she had enough guts to run for "the Committee" when she gets in office all the "town meetings" will allow the public to express their concerns. Sounds like taxes will be reduced and property values will continue to be up for some and lowered for others. Those who have followed the rules and taken the proper training will no longer be able to carry weapons although everyone else can carry without the permits, payments or training. This sure sounds like a platform to me just another attempt by the inept to take away the rights of gun toting, card carrying taxpayers. GO NANCY!!!

Nancy is not going to get elected. She doesn't have the leadership skills required. No need to beat this dead horse any longer.

Fins

Nancy, you say a time may come that we need to cut services. But the very first post that you made here you said you want to lower the tax rate, which would decrease county revenue, which means some expenses will have to be cut. Its not a may have to be, it is a must happen. So with your plan, what are you wanting to cut?

Nancy, I have to say, so far my opinion is that you arent that bright. You haven't been able to stay on track with a simple train of thought or to answer any question that had been presented to you. Give me a reason to reconsider my opinion.

I do agree with your logic achs. I dont agree with the secrecy surrounding the purchase and the intended use of the property.

It still looks to me that nancy has no idea of what has recently transpired with the commissioners voting to ban guns in certain parks. She is apparently FOR the second amendment as long as nobody is allowed to actually keep and bear arms!

Nancy, is it your position that trained people with concealed carry permits should not be allowed to carry in our parks, but it's ok for them to carry a concealed weapon on the sidewalk in downtown West Jeff? Why would you think we would twirl our guns in the parks? Have you seen any of us twirling them in the streets?
And why would you need extra security in the parks? You don't put extra security anywhere else that I have a right to carry.

Maybe the commissioners should just pass a rule that everyone should be nice to each other. That would make as much sense as preventing law abiding permit holders from carrying. The criminals won't be stopped by the county ordnance, but I will. It's a shame! Also, it's a shame that you don't seem to really have much grasp of the issues facing the county where you want to be a commissioner!

I have several mobile homes I rent, each has an abundant water supply and a working septic system. You think I might could borrow some money on them?

achs2009

Posted 12:53 pm, 03/03/2012

Your dad was right - and this joins the property the county has.

We can't live in just what we need for today. Someone has to look to the future needs of the county. Maybe we can get them to put the land back on the tax rolls at 1.6 million and pay themselves property tax on it.

If the county had not bought the landfill tract, Ashe Park, Ashe County High School or the Beaver Creek School tract when it was available - we would not have the use of them today.

Do all of you whiners rent your mobile homes or do some of you have a mortgage on them?

billygoatgruf

as for the property....it makes no difference to me if they paid one million or ten million for the property. fact is, in this hard time especially, there seems to be no logical reason to purchase property we have no immediate use for.

my dad used to say....i don't want ALL the property, just what joins me.
