Watch the meeting on TV like everyone else does. The county collected over $1M dollars in delinquent taxes once they finally started collecting them.

Yeah, I did call. And if you’d pay attention to what you are reading you’d see that when it refers to property tax it says money’s owed to the tax payer. But in collecting all other taxes it says money owed to local government. See if you can figure out what that means

what the ???

Of course they can take your car, and your tv, and any other personal property to pay off your delinquent taxes. But since you don’t work and live with your mommy, it probably doesn’t affect you.
However do not lie to the rest of Ashe County who think they are safe to ignore the laws of the state by not paying their taxes.

You clown they cant take your car or your house and land. They can refuse to let you buy a tag but they cant take your car. As for your land they have to file foreclosure which entails a few legal hurdles before they can sell your land or house.

Oh jack must take up for his little buddy again.. and you are both wrong still.
If you actually read the article, it quotes the specific tax laws that apply.
But, here’s a great idea.. you two buddies stop paying your property taxes then you can Gabe surprised when the tax office garnishes your wages, empties your bank account, takes your car and/or your house and land.
Of course if, like most on here believe, you two live in your mom’s basement and don’t have the whereforall to have a job, then you are just liars.

Thats an opinion from a school. Its not NC statute law. We have both told you that they cant garnish the tax payers wages just because they want to. It did appear that the county has a policy that must be signed by any potential county employee.

Fins, you are a liar. You never called the school of govt.. at least not about property tax law.
But I will give you the reference for the latest article about wage garnishment they published.
https://www.sog.unc....shment-101
Liar, just give up. There are numerous people who have delinquent taxes on real property in Ashe County that are having their wages LEGALLY garnished.

Clearly you two dont know crap about real estate or the law. the county may be able to create an employee policy mandating they can garnish county employee salaries, but thats as far as it goes

The county tax department does not need any court document to garnish a salary, payment or bank account. The county tax director only needs to send a letter to the employer, payor or bank instructing them to send the funds to the county. The tax director is limited in that he can only garnish 10% of paycheck, but can take 100% of bank accounts and other payments. It costs the county an envelope, stamp and a couple of pieces of paper, which is a pretty good return, but someone has to get up off the butt to make this happen. The bad news is no one was doing this before. The good news is that it is now happening.

So jack is taking up for his baby boy fins.. Please ask the tax office or the UNC School of Government Quit guessing and worse spreading false information.
It is legal and a common method across the state to collect delinquent taxes on real property.... and bank attachment (emptying your account), and taking your state tax refund.

It would stand up if the employee sign an agreement to such.

It absolutely would stand up. Local governments in many states do this. Some, will not accept a job application from someone that owes property or other taxes to the locality. Over 20 years ago, a Federal District Court Judge in Baltimore refused to hear a lawsuit brought by an aggrieved employee of Baltimore County. The Judge refused to hear the case, saying it was governed by State and local law, and did not involve a Federal Constitutional right. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, which also covers North Carolina, found that they did not have standing to hear an appeal of the denial by the District Judge.

Thanks for printing that Tabby. Do you happen to know who put this in or how long this has been in effect? I am almost sure that it would not stand up to a labor board investigation.

SSECTION 32: PAYMENT OF COUNTY TAXES BY EEMPLOYEES”. Because the operations of the county are financed primarily through the collection of county property taxes, it is required that each county employee timely pay his or her county property tax. Failure to timely pay county property taxes will be considered a violation of this policy and shall subject the employee to garnishment and may subject the employee to additional disciplinary action up to, and including, dismissal
