DSS Board

We missed the first sign when the band of idiots appointed her to that board. No one would have thought her one vote would lead to this until Sexton was thrown in the pot. They think they are slick.

Dog, I do expect support is long gone and that will be reflected at election time. Aren't the DSS Board records public record? It would be interesting to know what Poe and Sexton have been up to on that board. Obviously they could not get control. Now Poe comes out and says she thinks her own board is worthless. Why is she still getting to have a voice? The voters spoke loud and clear. That's the voice that should be being heard.

I would have thought they lost the support long long ago.

Passing this, the Commissioners would CERTAINLY lose their voter support and their elected position. The voting folks of Ashe are not that easily fooled. Not one time have I seen them discuss the ones that would suffer from this action. They seem to have one thing in focus.

The dss board must not have the votes needed to fire Donna. Lets watch how many of them come to the mouth breather meeting and defend themselves and Donna. Easy you and chevy have figured this one out like a road map.

57, I think you answered a question asked earlier when someone asks who was really behind this take over of DSS. Poe for sure. The article seals the answer to that question. Yearick owes her. It's personal with her toward Weaver. If all a DSS Board does is hire and fire a director, no wonder she wanted the job. Why else would you accept an appointment to a board you don't believe should exist. Yearick got the appointments made. He took that chance to get another of Weaver's foes, disgruntled former employee, Terry Sexton, who happens to be his lifelong BFF, on the DSS Board as well. Sexton wants Weaver's job. That's clear. Poe gets what she wants, Yearick helps orchestrate that and gets his (hard to employ) friend the job of his dreams. Roark gets to strut around Hardee's and act like he controls the county. His wife gets to go around boasting about who else besides Weaver is going to get fired. Everyone feels important. They need to back up and think. What is important is the wellbeing of Ashe County citizens, bother the rich and poor. They may parade around that they are going to save the county money. Not if they cause lawsuits as well as federal and state penalties for fumbling DSS. Yearick may not care if there are lawsuits but as a tax payer, and voter, I do. I don't think I am alone. Voters, we hire and fire these clowns. Show the rest what we showed Poe. Hiring them is obviously, re-hiring her. Are we that stupid Ashe County?

I smell a Big Fat Rat. The taxpayers get fed up with the political posturing and self-serving actions of a former county commissioner who orchestrated the firing of the last two competent county managers and toss her out with the bathwater during the last primary (by a scathingly wide margin might I add). Before she is out the door, Poe manages to hire herself a Yes man Homeboy as county manager. Homeboy (the former chair of the Caldwell County Republican party and a MORON with no county management experience) calls in a few favors and gets Poe and his buddy, Terry Sexton, appointed to the local DSS board.
Gary (being led by the nose) Roark does an about face on his views about DSS and convinces his two (can't think for themselves) lackeys to go along with him. (Poe proposed the county taking over the DSS board during her reign and Roark stated that he didn't support such a move.) Thus the DSS issue "miraculously" rises from the ashes. Former commissioner and current DSS board member Poe attends the commissioners meeting on the issue (missing the DSS board meeting she was supposed to attend) to "view" the discussion. She then weighs in publicly via the local newspaper (link provided below).
Roark and cronies would do well to remember the outcome of the last Republican primary when the taxpayers loudly voiced their dissatisfaction with Poe's antics through the ballot box for surely they will face the same fate. Rose in particular should take note since his dreams of running for sheriff will be extremely short lived if he continues to align himself with this bunch.
This county would be better served by a group of commissioners willing to put political maneuvering aside to make decisions that are in the best interest of the citizens and I think we will see another landslide vote during next year's primary if things don't improve. The next group of commissioners would also be better off by getting rid of yes man Yearick who plays the political game right along with Poe (he got himself appointed to the Caldwell Community College Board of Trustees when he had to resign as chair of the Republican Party in Caldwell). It's a sorry state of affairs when there's this much back door political posturing allowed to take place.

So as I understand it ... the 3 Stooges "conveniently" forgot to run the public notice about their meeting for Oct. 19, so the meeting as been moved to Nov. 2 ... the day all the poor, un/underemployed citizens of Ashe County will swarm upon the courthouse to apply for CIP. Meanwhile, all the supervisors and caseworkers in DSS who were planning on attending the meeting won't be able to make their voices heard. These idiots can't manage to perform the simplest of tasks like submitting a public notice, yet they "run" the county? What idiots put these morons in charge? If these baffoons continue to d*ldo the county this way, I'm shaking the dirty off my shoes and heading back to the city.

Which meeting should we show up to? The Public meeting is a farce and we are not invited to the meetings of those really making the decisions for the 3 puppets.

The choices for this county are either show up for meetings and shout the morons down, or move out before it's too late.

The vine has their hand picked boy Sexton to replace Donna. The manager is too busy blowing smoke up Roarks and his lackeys butts to run dss.

I agree with soapbox-it is time that we start showing up for commissioners meetings and let them know that we are tired of their ideas and vengeful ways. The head of DSS has always given 110% to the citizens of Ashe County, and to hear that our commissioners are considering a vote to put Sam Yearick in charge of DSS is one of the dumbest ideas they have had yet. I am sure that Mr. Yearick will have the knowledge to run the department once he learns a few things, but what happens in the mean time? Somehow they (commissioners and Yearick) seem to think that there is a pot of gold at the end of the DSS rainbow, there is no pot of gold only mandates by the state and federal about where this money is to be spent and how. No one has talked about all the funds that Donna Weaver and her staff have brought into Ashe County, all the good things that have been accomplished for the citizens of Ashe or says thanks to them or other county employees. All they hear is the negative. I say show up on the 19th of October and show your support for our hardworking employees and let the commissioners know that their time is limited in those seats. In the meantime, when you see Roark at Hardees, Rose on the beat in West Jefferson or Richardson on his pumpkin lot on Hwy. 163, let them know that we do not care for the way they do business. Leave our county employees alone and let them do the jobs they have been doing quite well for many years.

Most county offices are over staffed. But most positions are also under paid.

I'm interested in seeing how many show up to the Oct. 19 meeting. I am actually planning on showing up just to see Moe, Larry and Curly live. I'm hoping LOTS of people show up and let these morons know their seats are gone next fall.

Underdog2, I have some friends who work for DSS and they are worried about their jobs. In fact, they tell me that the majority of the county employees are worried about their jobs because of all the garbage spouted out by Roark at Hardee's about county employees making too much and being overstaffed.

If they are thinking about cutting jobs, the I have only this to say to them: Those employees are also voting Ashe County citizens. Your actions will directly affect in some way your friends, your neighbors, your fellow church members and possibly your relatives. These employees pay taxes, have families to support, bills to pay and are contributing members of society who are not on any type of state assistance. Many of them were born and raised here.

You want young people to stay in this county after college, yet when they do stay and manage to get a good job and stay in it enough years to actually make a decent wage, you want to turn around and fire them for making too much money or some political or personal agenda you may have. What message does this send to our youth? What message does this send to our fellow church members? It certainly doesn't convey brotherly love or doing unto others, in fact it reeks of jealousy that someone else has succeeded where you have failed.

Each of the commissioners needs to take a good long look in the mirror and ask yourself, is what I have done thus far and am attempting to do morally and ethically right? Is it what's in the best interest of the citizens I serve? If you look deep and answer truthfully, I think you will find that your decisions thus far have been self-serving and biased and without sound merit. I pray that you will use sound judgment in making future decisions because quite frankly the decisions I've been reading about for the past year or so are lacking considerably.

The band of idiots are elected officials not an employee of the county. Employees are hired by filling out an application and passing a back ground check and a drug test.
