leo(law enforcement officer) (view profile) | Posted 7:56 pm, 11/20/2012 | dog, Not really sure what you meant but I read the news report and it said 3 LEO's, 2 from ACSO and 1 from WJPD. I'm talking about all of the other information being put on here, who lived where or called the law etc. that is the type of facts that will be presented to the DA.

Mary's first post was to the west jefferson barney that shot her cousin.

If what I am hearing is true there is some misinformation in the article. I have been told that Hopkins is not the one who shot the man. I was also told that the WJ cop wasn't even there.

Bottom line, again, it seem that had he not put himself in the position that someone felt the need to call the law, he would still be living. The cops were not there on a hunting trip, and Doofus had things in a downward spiral before they were ever called there.

I don't know Doofus,Howell,Hopkins or anyone of them involved. But I have to say this is a lame Bottom Line.....

I agree. If I was a cop if u have a gun and don't respond I am going to shoot. Also how many people with or without conditions don't know that when the cops are pointing guns at u that u drop your gun.

When I read about this after it initially happened I agreed that it was likely justified. After reading the lawsuit itself that was posted on the mountain times website though I'm starting to think that if all the information in there can be verified, the family has a good chance at winning the civil suit and that (if it is accurate) a couple of the deputies should have been disciplined.

Don't think his drivers license was renewed. He only drove lawn mowers.

This whole lawsuit has smelled bad since day one. It's an attempt to get money. Thank god he's not around to do it again.

That's exactly what I'm saying. And lets assume he did have these shortcomings, who allowed him access to loaded guns? What was he doing pointing the gun at people?

Agent, in all articles, reports, and even his family that have brought up his sight and hearing, they all used the term legally blind and legally deaf. I believe cousin Mary claimed he could only see silhouettes and shadows. But others have come forward and said he hunted and did other things that required more sight than the family seems to want to admit.
Btw, anyone notice something smells funny again?

That's my point. Just how blind? Just how deaf?

I didn't know Doofus and I wasn't there that night. I do wonder though, did he have poor vision rather than being actually blind? Did he have poor hearing rather than being deaf. Was he so drunk/drugged that it didn't matter much either way about either one since maybe he wasn't processing what he saw/heard. Bottom line, again, it seem that had he not put himself in the position that someone felt the need to call the law, he would still be living. The cops were not there on a hunting trip, and Doofus had things in a downward spiral before they were ever called there.

Because the 4th amendment, and laws of this state protect the individual from harasment and unfair search and seizure. These laws go back to old English times. "A mans house is his castle" is not just a cozy saying that people made up.

It seems to me that out of the two LEO, Det. Howell would be the one that messed up. If he knew of any medical condition such as what Mr. Houck allegedly had, then he should have informed Dep. Hopkins. Maybe then, the responding officers would have chose a different tactic. Other than that, responding to a call like this, why would any officer drive up with blue lights on. Seems to me that would make a easy target.

Phil Howell called it in. He was the guys neighbor. Jake Howell who was working town police also responded to the call. Phil Howell works for the sheriffs office.

It was reported before that one of the Barneys on the call was from the neighborhood and called it in

It wasnt the town cop that called it in. Two different Howells. Phil Howell is the one that called it in.
