Close the landing strip and use that pavement for the fire club.

This is nothing but a waste. And what is Leonard Houck doing up there? He couldnt hack it as fire chief so I guess he's strokin it as the hose jockey president.

Correct me if I am wrong, but have the mouth breathers extended the 500grand to the hospital? I had thought it was for 3 years. I do see the reason for a time limit, same as loan conditions may change but you spell out the future at the beginning not as you go.

The hospital will still get money for the next 5 years. I agree take it from the airport but this is the same commissioners that voted to spend another 80,000 on the airport last month.....after spending 7.3 million on it in the last 5 years.

Take it all from the airport

Least you not forget the 500 grand to the hospital that will run out soon unless it is renewed.

"In exchange, the county would have to lease the property in the Beaver Creek industrial park to the Fireman's Association for 50 years."

So since the county is paying 53,000 a year for this privilege, how much are we charging the Fireman's Association for this lease?

As to where the money will come from most likely schools or social services.....

Good job mouth breathers! Just when I think you are out of ways to waste money, you come up with another dumb idea.

I think those mouth breathing idiots are so politically motivated just to be elected that they will tell the hose jockeys almost anything they want to hear. The hose jockeys believe it or not are smart enough to use it to their benefit.

$1.2 million huh? Well, that's just what they've finally admitted. All projects run over budget. Expect at least 1.5 to 1.8 million. I believe I previously said as much when the hose jockeys tried to tell us it would be about $375k. Seems they failed math and only latched on to the cost of the building itself.

It's just amazing that not one commissioner bothered to ask how many other counties get by without their own training centers. Another case of a small county being too stubborn to think past the county line and stuck with the idea that we have to always have our own

Why can't they buy a trailer training unit like Deep gap has and save some money. Also why does the training facility need to be paved if it is about real world training one or two strips of black top to mimic a road or drive way and the rest gravel and grass.

Putting a little more thought into the fire hut to the tune of over 1 million bucks one could only wonder why the hose jockeys couldnt come up with covering the entire county with no home being more than 6 miles from a fire club. Between Laurel Springs and Jefferson there are homes 10 miles from a fire club. Between West Jefferson and Todd there are homes 10 miles from a fire club. Between Pond mountain, and Warrensville there are homes 10 miles from a fire club. Not to mention the fire clubs with insurance ratings of a 9.

So where are they going to get the $53,000 a year to pay the loan back?

What a waste. I really like the break down sammie has done. Wanting me to believe paving and a fence is 850K. Priceless.

$1.2 million so a few people will not have to drive out of the county once a year.

$0 for those that leave the county everyday for jobs because there are none here.

Sort of old news but I was behind in my reading on this topic. It appears that the County has found a way to finance the Club house without, once again, taking it to the voters. http://ashemountaintimes.co...9e006.html

I know most folks would vote against any capital project which might increase tax rates, but when was the last time our Commissioners took any funding plan before the voters in the form of a bond issue?

You should find out, because it could help motivate people to still donate a building to burn.

The short answer is, yes. But possibly not as a charitable donation. If removing the structure would actually improve the property value, then the money would be deductible as an investment expense. However, it may not be deductible until that property is sold and can be adjusted against the sales price. I've not been active in real estate for a while, so I'm not 100% on current tax rules

I have no idea if the $1,500 is deductible or not.

Good question..

FD, do you know if I have a house I want to burn, could I deduct the $1500 for the asbestos study as a charitable donation? $1500 seems pretty cheap for a property owner that wants to clear a piece of property
