No fan of the APT as they usually don't look into many things they should, but the ACL looks amateurish with this one. The ACL was formed by **** stirrers when there was plenty of it to stir with the commissioners and sheriff. Guess they are looking for it now. Seems if the ACL gets most of its exercise either dodging issues or jumping to conclusions.

She didn't walk because she didn't follow the dress code that has basically been in place for 20 graduations at ACHS. She was given this info weeks ago. No one's fault but her and her mother. Lawyer will laugh them out of his office or take their money and laugh all the way to the bank.

Props to the AP&T for doing the right thing and reserving judgment until ACS responds. Sloppy job by the ACL.

Absolutely correct, mtnman! I feel for the school and the school board having to deal with this ity. The news stations just ran with it too. Her 15 minutes of fame will die down soon.

If this parent had at all been concerned for her child(instead of herself)she would’ve encouraged them to try changing the policy earlier in the school year. A senior in the ***berland Co NC school system did so in Feb. This mom is wanting the attention & trying to get money! She’s changing her story from “the shoes” to being discriminated against. Her mouth is getting her & the child the wrong attention. Mom could’ve handled this in a much more grown up manner!!

I graduated in 2005. Had I worn shoes like that I would have not been allowed to walk. We had very specific instructions as to what we were to wear to graduation and I wanted to walk so I followed the rules. Looks to me like they planned this so they could make a big deal out of it and get special attention. Sad.

The problem was with the mom - she wanted to be difficult to deal with like she always is and thinks that this will bring her money to fix problems that were already there and it won’t ,what a story she has created. There are rules in life that have to be followed ,this was just a simple rule asking them not to wear tennis shoes, itwas clearly stated on the seniors paperwork and shoes were provided for her to wear she just chose not to take the pair and walk this was her choice .No media needed to cover !!

Yeah they aren't happy with my comments on facebook, guess the truth hurts. I pointed out this wasn't the way to go about a resolution and then I pointed out to many people where just listening to one side of the story and accepting it as the gospel.

I mean I myself see nothing wrong with the shoes, but if there was a code and assistance was offered no real excuse. I mean they could have just asked to wear what the boys was and since they are claiming the shoes were the problem and based on pictures then they essentially were except the claimed shoes.

Most jobs not going to let you wear whatever you want (at least not any that pay good money) and most aren't going to let you dye your hair unnatural colors.

She wants to be a he Jr. I'm thinking they are trying to imply discrimination for sexuality now. The shoes didn't really get them anywhere. So now this comes out.

Other students offered her shoes and she refused them. What's she (or he)-or whatever going to do when on that first job interview the potential employer says the hair color is not appropriate? That's not fair!!!! Boo friken hoo hoo! Not a baby anymore. Got the diploma-welcome to the real world where you can act like this and be taken care of by the taxpayers as a noncontributing member of the welfare population.

The biggest reason things like this are happening is that schools coddle this precious little misunderstood children and make pretend the world will be all lovey dovey. Grow up!

The school owes it to the other 200 or so students to make it an appropriate evening. Go home, cry your heart out. They'll mail your diploma in a few days.

The mother has implied that their child was perhaps special needs, I don't know either but I'm not the only one watching the video that has thought that.

Sounds more like a conspiracy to get a teacher fired.

I agree, fins! Why call out other kids that didn't walk. If there was a pregnant girl that wasn't allowed, why not let her call them out herself? This is ridiculous.

In the fox story the mother says the whole thing was a conspiracy to keep her daughter from walking. Like the whole school was against her. I’ve known teachers that truly disliked certain kids. But none of them would have done something so childish like trying to keep a kid from walking just for spite. They would rather get rid of the problem kid and mother and move on. The conspiracy theory is BS.

Sounds more and more like she has a grudge against one teacher.

This individual had their whole senior yr to contact the school board to have the policy changed. Other schools in NC & the US did so. This mother is just a “big” mouth trouble maker. She’s unhappy that her daughter, who’s not happy being or dressing as a female, has to seek attention on herself now. Clearly, the mom is trying to say it’s more than the shoes now. She’s trying to get all the media attention local & national drawn to her because her daughter wants to be identified as a male. If her daughter wants to be “Luke” instead of “Callie” then do so after the graduation is over!! Mom is trying to bring negative attention to Ashe Co because her precious child didn’t get their way! Life sucks sometimes! You live with your choices you’ve made!! What does this mom think the rest of this child’s life will be like. She’s not teaching them that you don’t always get what you want!

On one post the girl says she showed q staff member a picture of the shoes. It does not say she was given permission. Momma says a pregnant girl couldn't walk. I don't buy that. I've known several that have in the past.

I have trouble believing that anyone approved the shoes before hand then stopped her from walking. I suspect the kid didn’t think anyone would stop her, and when it happened, told the mother her shoes were approved previously.

Once again Fins shows his ability to use his brain instead of jumping to conclusions. When the truth of this comes out all these whiny poor baby posts are going to look really foolish. Nailed it again Fins.

I have now heard that a pregnant student was also not allowed to walk. Why if she was able to finish school she should get to walk.
