blubird, not sure why you like skittles so much, you must buy the special kind. I don't think shatley is a hero or a legend. I am a firm believer of " you break the law, you get busted" and eye for an eye. As for this shooting, you dont have the details. These cops are putting their life on the line every day, they don't get paid much. And they cant hide behind a keyboard when things get sketchy while on a call.

The troll is strong w/ blubird.
The fact that the Hopster was indicted and charged w/ second degree murder as opposed to manslaughter or not charged at all speaks volumes. I'd still like to know the real story behind Josh's "voluntary" departure from Ashe, which by pure coincidence (I'm sure) happened shortly after the Shatley incident. I believe Jimmy said Josh had always wanted to move on to a much larger department, but Carter Co. and the bright lights, big city of Elizabethton don't exactly fit the bill. I

Blubird, how much have you drank today? Because I don't think I could ever drink enough to see Shatley as a hero or legend...

Jabbo29.... your name reminds me of the slogan, "Taste the rainbow" - Anyway, I am glad that you also hail Shatley as a Hero, a legend

That I agree with, cause IMO it's highly unlikely we the general public will ever see the body or dash cam video.

What ever happens, I hope the evidence is clear and definitive and leaves no question about the ruling of the trial.

I assumed that, however I did not know if there was anything they could do if there was suspected corruption or negligence.

Well aint that just cozy as all get out involving the two attorneys (da's). This now smells even worse.
Heels the Sheriff answers to no one in the county but the voters. He only goes to the board for budget matters only. They have no say what so ever how he runs the department.
Remember the last sheriff election? We surely dont want him.

I don't believe they can do that. The only power the mouth breathers have over the sheriff is through his budget.

I noticed that Horner was selected to take a corruption case involving the assistant DA in Franks office about a year ago. Although Horner may have removed himself from the case, the 2 DAs have a history.

Absolutely, I think his integrity took a major hit. It may have been arrogance that he thought this would blow over, or just blinded by his bias towards his deputies. Either way, they should not have been reinstated.
The only reason I think he should stay on is that I don't think there is anyone there that is capable to run the department. and do we trust the commissioners to select someone? Just think DSS with more political motivations. So, I am for keeping the department stable until the next election.
Having said that. Do the commissioners have the power to request him to come before the board and give a report? I assume because he is an elected official that they can't unless it is budget related.

I think Hoppy is a poor deputy. He gets off on power and clearly has an anger problem that's been documented on TV. But there is another layer to this. From what I understand, Horner isn't real popular with law enforcement. He's been quick to charge officers in the past. And even though he officially removed himself from the case, I'm sure he talks to the DA that took over this case.

So the sheriff put them back to work to what ?----save face. So two da's and the sbi investigation is still on going and the sheriff puts the two back to work. This stinks on the part of the Sheriff.

"In regards to the deputies being reinstated, District Attorney Tom E. Horner said that decision is completely up to the discretion of Williams although the SBI's investigation is still ongoing."

That makes sense. The sbi cleared them to return to work but the Davidson da never did. So would it be a fair assumption that some of what the family and friends are saying is the SBI may have been negligent in their findings?

Dog, our DA said he couldn't take the case because of being a family friend of Shatley. To my understanding it was the SNI that cleared them to return to work.

Step back a minute and tell me why the local da cleared the barneys to return to work and there was no wrong doing. Then who brought in the da Gary Frank from Davidison county who ultimately carried charges against the prize hog to a grand jury. Who testified before the grand jury? I just missed when and why the second da was brought in.
