$340k?
I'll bet Della Shatley gets far more than that. I might even call Della and ask her out.

First hand from a man that is already a proven liar, a rat, and has a vendetta against the previous sheriff?
Btw, you might want to tell him that revealing any info from a sealed settlement involving the sheriff's office could put him in violation of a court order.

The first suit was settled. The reason the info was not released to the public is because Williams did not want it put out to the public. The new sherif has the info, I asked him about it and he told me 340k was paid out. All of you that have questions should go see him and get the info first hand from him.

Which brings us back to our other question, did the new Sheriff post the necessary bond. Because if he hasn't he shouldn't be performing any duties as we wouldn't be covered by said insurance in all likelihood.

We (the taxpayers) paid for the insurance. We should be privy to the settlement.

Wait a minute. I just realized the county has insurance for lawsuits. Likely it didnt cost us a dime. Other then maybe higher insurance premiums.

You got a point gruffer. Also when money has to be moved out of the general fund there has to be a budget amendment that has to voted on by the mouth breathers. It should be contained in written minutes.

Does the county have insurance for things like this?

If the budget was scrutinized, wouldn't a large figure (say, a couple of ****) stand out?

Hmm I'd like to know details of this settlement.
Jefferson Post first announced Hartley was stepping down on November 21st, 2016. So well after that settlement was filed. However is it a coincidence or timing. I've not seen anything about a settlment in the papers, which considering isn't surprising.
Post last printed on December 16th, 2016 that the trial was moved to February 6th, 2017 (which we all know is going to be delayed again because of all we've talked about).

In some states, taxpayers have won the right to have all monies paid out on lawsuits revealed. In one county in Maryland, they won the right to know how much is paid out in a year, but not the amount per individual actions. It is NOT going to happen here or anywhere else in NC. Our politicians only preach transparency. They are not actually going to tell you the truth about anything.

The one option is for the paper boys get the payouts to law firms through a freedom of information act request. Coin you are right it was likely sealed since it was settled in mediation. Dead on about it being a nice cover up for incompetent people.

Details of the settlement were most likely sealed. If that is the case we will never find out. If the plaintiff were to reveal the settlement, the defendant(s) could file to get their money back. And if the defendant is a governmental unit, it gives them the opportunity to say, Gee, we would like to tell you, but because of a court order we can't. Convenient for incompetent governments.

I have no idea on that one. Sure would be nice if the paper boys would report the news though.

I could not find a suit involving Shatley. I do wonder now if the settlement of this suit brought about the decision by williams to retire. I dont know exactly when williams announced he would retire. For the suit to be settled means there was merit to the case on behalf of the family.
I bet you I counted 10 or more cases against the city of Charlotte.
