Yes this really indeed happen. My mother and my aunt who were pregnant at at the time were held at gunpoint by two locals when they were out walking.
When the case came to court there were 50 witnesses claiming they were hiding in the bushes, saw the whole thing and it didn't happen. The next time someone tried some crap with my mom, claiming they were coming after my brothers in our house they got met with something they didn't want. They later said they though they were dead as bullets cut the tree leaves off right over their heads

Mental that's a common misconception that there is one law for all. It does not work that way at least in Ashe County. It's how much money you have, how good of an attorney you can afford, and WHO you know. I have watched proven liars and criminals walk out of that courthouse scotch free and the innocent person get railroaded. I even presented pictures proving someone was lying. And if you like and a crime is committed there will be 50 witnesses claiming they were hiding in the bushes, saw the whole thing, and it didn't happen or that the criminal was clear across the county
