average - i did not loose. my point of view is very typical of us uneducated, backwoods ashe county hillbillies. that is the reason we don't embrace zoning and land use regulations (taken as a whole). i don't expect you to understand my position or even appreciate it. i do in fact understand your position completely. you see your land as an aquisition, something you invested hard earned money into. same as a stock, bond or any investment. you have every right to expect your investment to be protected. problem is, you came to the wrong place for that. ashe county, right or wrong in your eyes, just don't go along with that. times are changing, and so are the people, and i guess as more people move into ashe from other areas, whose ideas of freedom differ, will no doubt change the laws. but....until that happens, i prevail in my way of thinking and the ways of my ancestors. i will have to accept whatever laws are on the books (or suffer the same fate as k37), but until that time comes....enjoy what i put on my property or just look the other way.

Good try, goat-boy; but you still lost based on the point. You also proved to be a liar just to stand by your feeble argument. Your comments about rights and people dying for our rights are well founded. Those same people serve, as did I, to guard the rights of those who hold my point of view as well.

Dog, this bear would enjoy helping you with all your lawn care needs.

Hey bear when you get done mowing the neighbors how about getting mine. The dog is going to take his lawn mower and mow some skirts off some concubines.

defeated? not nearly. and while i would be disappointed to sell my house and get $50k less, i would grumble a little and let it go. i feel like it is a price i am willing to pay for freedom to do as i want. to make an analogy....people die each day for freedom's sake, and i grieve over the loss of each and every one. but....freedom ain't free.

you may now leave the field of battle as the defeated one.

Oh, and gruf, you wouldn't mind at all that you got $50,000 less for your home, if you decided to sell, because your neighbor has chosen to surround his home with junk? If you say; "yes", you're a liar. You've failed to make a good point on the facts. You may now leave the field of battle as the defeated.

I did bring up the idea of property value; but, does that mean that I have no regard for the human factor? You people keep on attempting to make it an all money and no people issue with me. This whole argument really has nothing to do with the human factor. It's about junk on one's property. Gruf, you just don't make a good argument. Now, if you want to talk about what makes me a good neighbor in the human sense, I'll be glad to oblige; but it'll be rather boring in nature. To give you an example; I'm getting ready to go mow my neighbor's yard today. You see, he lives in Florida during the colder months, and he asked if I would hire someone to do it for him. Instead, I told him I would be glad to mow it for him until he returns at no charge. I'm sure he would do the same for me.

average - your inflated idea of "conciousness" proves that your concern is property value only. many of us extend our conciousness futher than that. i consider myself a good neighbor because i would mind my own business if my neighbor wanted to use his land as he saw fit. i would consider myself bound to a "higher level of conciousness" if i can walk away from something i don't like all the while understanding that my neighbors use of his land is his business, and not mine. a man's house (and property) is his castle, and if my neighbor's "treasure" is in my eyes "junk", i will respect his wishes and look the other way.

And, to add to those points; never did I ever make a negative reference to anyone who lived in a trailer.

Here is the dogs thoughts for the day bear, It is in fact elementay that a single wide or double wide in the same area of stick built homes will for a fact lower the value and desirbilty of the neighborhood. Now, this in no way is a slam on anyone who lives in one. These people are working just as hard as me to pay for their home. Next if a person has a bucnh of junk in the yard thats just pure and simple sorriness. It has nothing to do with its my right.

So, what's your point? Do you condemn be for being a good neighbor with a willingness to agree with those around me? Do you condemn my unwillingness to build a nice home next to a trailer park; or is it that I choose not to have junk in my yard? Or is it that I'm just willing to state the obvious? What's your point?

A considerate neighbor doesn't need deed restrictions, no matter what their rights are. I would have to look at my deed to see if there are any restrictions.

You say you live in a development there bear? You ever see if you and your neighbors have deed restrictions? Those would protect you and your neighbors to the extent if you and your neighbors have enough money to take someone to court for breaking the restrictions.

By the way, it doesn't bother me in the least to be on a higher level of consciousness than the majority of you folks when it comes to my financial assests. You know I'm correct, but don't have the guts to admit it for fear of offending someone or feeling bad about your own situation. That's about it.

averagebear

Why do you say that, gruff? Is it just because I don't agree with the "do as you please, no matter who it affects"? I actually talk to my neighbors and they talk to me. We don't have a HOA in our development, yet we still respect each other enough not to build unsightly buildings and leave junk in our yards. We do that out of respect for each other. With this mutual respect scenario, I've never had a problem with a neighbor anywhere that I've lived. I stated facts about property values and consideration for neighbors. What's wrong with that?

billygoatgruf

average - your considerations for your neighbor extend just as far as he/she agrees with you. i don't exactly see that as consideration....

Yes, you hit it right on the head, gang. I'm the villan with my thoughts of sincere consideration for neighbors and common sense concerning the most valuable of monetary investments, our homes and properties. I wish you all the very best.

billygoat, will wonders never cease today, You and I agree, now I've got to go find me some old tires and plant my marigolds. I love pissing off the religious right, especially all those OUTSIDERS.. Got to get busy bugging the neighbors, I've been minding too much of my own business lately. Step aside Martha Stewart and I'll show you how to plant a bathtub. Martha has nothing on me when I get busy with creative planters. Wish I had one of those old wringer washers, they make lovely planters with trailing plants drooping over the sides all the way to the ground. Bet those Wave petunias would be lovely in one of those. **** I think my daughter has an old pair of boots I can plant something in too. Busy, busy.
