Did they require a range master?

Actually 8' is more then enough. I had the NRA send me all the specs. I also went to 2 very nice ranges over the weekend to check them out and 1 of them gave me all the specs they had

Joe, I think public ranges have to have a certified range master now. So insurance may be less than a private club. I highly doubt 8' backstops would be enough

I can tell you over the years we have spent a lot of money on up keep of the Berms between the various ranges. I believe insurance and the NRA require them to be a certain height for safety.

Joe if you know the best structure as far as saving me money on building the building let me know. It would basically be a wide open building except for the office. I thought about wood siding I don't know. I don't think I want a metal building because it would be noisy.

I wonder what the difference in insurance rates are for a members only club vs. a public shooting range.

The reason I'm asking is because I have found a piece of land in Wilkes that has past everything as far as not having any kind of zoning issues and stuff like that. The way one side of the land works out is perfect because the way it is laid the way you would be shooting would be 8' below the top of a hill. It is a little over 16 acres of land. The land has been perked so building on it want be a problem. I would like to have a building with between 2500 and 3000 sq ft. I trying now to figure out how much it would cost to build. I can save a little money because I can do the HVAC and a few other things but I know it will still cost quite a bit. Thanks for all the info keep it coming.

I know this sounds crazy but because of the cost of good old insurance. I'm not going over 200 yards at this time. Prob only 1 or 2 of those.

Its not that big of deal if you shop around like we did at the gun club

Does the Sheriff's Department have a gun range? I have seen a number of Cities and counties take their law enforcement training facilities and open them up to the public for controlled use. Many even have some sort of nominal fee to cover the cost of having a range master in attendance. That does not help with your desire to open a business in the area but is is a good use of public property.

Especially if you want a long gun range. I went to a range down in Beaufort that had a 1500yd range and a sleet range.

4 or 5 acres isn't enough for all that with berms and back stops plus buffer area from adjoining land owners. I am going to say 15 to 20 at the least

There's no zoning outside the city limits

quartetman

I know. I have had it all layed out by someone that has built 3 of them. I need 4 to 5 acres. I would rather have outdoor ranges if I have to build my own. Of course it will have to be zoned right and all.

You are going to need to find some acres out in the county for all that.

Well at this time I have not been able to find a few acres in a good location to build a building. We are wanting to build at least 10 outdoor ranges and a skeet range. We are not green at this just so everyone knows. We are wanting to have a A1 store and range and treat customers like they should be treated. We will also have a reward program for our loyal customers. Joseph if you know of a place like that let me know. I would rather buy one that is in business but I have no problem buying the land and it don't have to be in wilkes. It could be in one of our neighbor counties.

Thank you, Todd Mastin
