Oh Homie, tell us again how you worked restaurants in college but never knew about the mafia in the area. It only confirms again that you are a liar.

A giant outta control narcissist will say things like: " people come here to see what I say. & the site would die without me" etc,

I'm too chatty admittedly, but I'm also humble, honest and I admit when I am wrong.

Fins and his secret mafia connections...here (pfffft!) - in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Lol.

It's doubtful but just maybe the government saw fit to place a few snitcher/gov't witness types in the protection program & placed them in just such an isolated place as this. Those desperate ex wise guys must be bored ****less after enjoying city life. Or maybe they're just old and happy to be alive in such a beautiful place. Who knows? Who know if they even exist here?

Oh wait - fins knows- about this and so, so, so many other topics. He won't really write about them very much preferring to sit back and criticize any others who might dare to share some personal thoughts or memories of their own about a topic he brought up.

King of goAshe? It's a sad kingdom if that's what the majority of folks think here. I come here to read what everyone else writes, beenthere, henryii, Tabs, pappy & hondo, WJ guy & many others I've failed to mention.

dog, I do sometimes enjoy your posts. They can be funny - if one can take your ribald sense of humor. Fins - I generally skip most of your posts now because you are cruel & just use the same (untrue) insults over and over.

Fin, you don't have a life just an over active imagination.

Dress up Mr Hankey, you are jealous and wish you had my life. People reading this are laughing at you.

Fess up Fin your only experience with the mob is The Sopranos and Law and Order. What a phony!

Mr Hankey, at least one of them has my number in his phone's contact list. I'm still doing just fine.

I think Fin would drop a load in his depends if he ever met up with a real wiseguy.

Narcissists never think it's about them. But you told a pointless story about YOUR uncle. Yours. Making it about you.

And if you don't think the mafia is in the NCmountains, you are dummer than I thought. I've dealt with them regularly.

No fins, not myself - Uncle Ricky. Since there aren't that many mafioso types hanging around western NC, I thought it might be somewhat interesting. I did put a disclaimer in the post prior to my intro to my mafia Uncle story. So sorry (not really) that you decided to waste two minutes.

dog, you bought the funeral home hype about vaults. Everything eventually goes right back into the earth and water. Granted, it's not as big an impact as many other environmental assaults upon the planet but with all the recent unnecessary covid19 deaths, it adds up.

So the point was just to talk about yourself

fins - I am actually not so full of **** on this subject.

I'll tell you poor drunken souls a bedtime story - ok - ready?

This is Time wasting for me. I'm not bragging (surely I will be accused but it's a truthful & somewhat embarrassing story so don't read it or please get over it). Unlike most of the folks around here I am 50% - that's half - northern, yankee (NYC area mix of immigrants circa 1900's) stock. Y'all can read my - very ill-advised - post about my DNA test results if you're THAT interested - but I implore you not to. Just read the bedtime story below for entertainment purposes...

Because there were a lot of Italian macho men during the 1960's/70's - I ended up with an "Uncle Ricky". My moms sister (who looked like a cross between late 80's Gwen Stefani/1950's Grace Kelly) back then acquired a husband who was a low level italinano soldier in Paterson, NJ. She was his beautiful trophy wife. They came to visit during the 70's a lot, flying into the Kingsport/Johnson City airport back then & my dad would take me along with him to pick them up. He loved watching the planes come and go-so we'd always leave early to take it all in. Yeah, I'm in my mid-50's so it was great!

We visited them as well during that time (70's) but by car (daddi-o had an almost brand new Lincoln Continental to do the big drive, no seatbelts, 4 kids climbing around and screaming "that's MY spot", kind of thing) While my maternal grandma was alive we went every year to visit. One year my dad took us to visit the Bowery - skid row then - prime property now.

I'm sure my uncle "Ricky" felt bad for how he treated me and my siblings back during that time - and NO he didn't sexually abuse me (not a pervy story,). He didn't like children but he treated my equally beautiful to her sister mother great! We'd go up to Jersey and he would take us into a warehouse full of clothing racks - where my mom could pick out "freebie" designer clothes.

"Uncle Ricky" eventually served some time in prison and then he died a few years ago.

Goodnight fellow goAshers!

Homie, you considered a career the mortuary service but never heard jokes about made men carrying a shovel and a couple bags of lime In the trunk of their Lincoln? You are so full of ****

You obviously missed the class on vaults. They are made 2.5 inches thick and are sealed and water proof. They are made from metals that will not rust away. Go back to funeral home school homie.

ashehomegrrl

dog, I know what the heck I'm talking about...on this topic at least. I don't claim to be all knowing, all seeing about everything, like you and your pal fins.

I truly considered a career in the death industry. I looked at mortuary schools & decided not to move so far east to do the schooling necessary at the time. Later, after I graduated college and had an established career and some skills in event planning, I revisited my earlier yearnings. I joined the state funeral industry association, attended their meetings, participated in their annual trade show, etc.

A little over 50% of people in the USA still choose a traditional burial (underground with a vault, casket, a viewing, & embalming, etc.). It's the American default choice but it's not that great for our planet. Embalming fluid (mostly formaldehyde) cannot forever be contained in a vault - eventually that toxic stuff goes into the soil and then into the water table. Cremation is better environmentally but it still releases a bunch of noxious crap into the air. Liquid nitrogen (promession) is being used in other countries right now as a way to dispose of a body with much less environmental impact...along with the previously mentioned alkaline hydrolysis.

The "pine box" hippie people would likely be aware of the embalming fluid conundrum and would therefore opt out of being embalmed. If you're planning on having a viewing (or "visitation" as some call it) you just have to do it quickly - before the body starts to decompose.

Funerals are events - held for the living who remain. They are important but hopefully in the future they can be less harmful to the planet.

Homie you are right no vault is required in NC so I must have been confused with most cemeteries requiring them so they dont have to put dirt on the graves as they sink.

Homie people that are embalming a body 99% of the time bury the person in a vault as it would be futile to throw them in a pine box so your statement on chemicals is false.

ashehomegrrl

Posted 1:56 pm, 07/16/2020

No doubt the mafia used various chemical substances to dispose of bodies that they wanted to make disappear but I seriously doubt they stopped to consider the environmental impact of their actions. Tony Soprano type fellows aren't the sort who stand out for their green sensibilities after all.

dog, you don't have to use a vault to encase a coffin/dead body in NC. Some individual cemeteries may require it but state law doesn't.

Also, embalming fluid "fills the ground with chemicals"...hundreds of thousands of gallons of it every year leak into our soil & ground water.
