Lowes Food Closing

True, but employee input at Wegmans is an integral part of corporate decisions. I have a close friend that has worked for Wegmans for close to 30 years. He started out as a bag boy and worked his way up to an executive in the company. They not only listen to their employees, but they listen to their customers. It has been that way for many years. He told me that Publix has modeled their company like Wegmans. Listen to your employees and customers and you will have a better finger on the pulse.

I agree the current location of the Lowes Food Store hurt them. Who do you think made that decision? It sure wasn't the employees. Fin, those people you are calling idiots working in the store, just happen to know the customers wants and needs more than the jack legs sitting on their butts in corp office. All employees working in retail are not high school drop outs! They could have more of an education than any of us. Who are we to judge????

it may be employee owned, but its not being operated by decisions made by the employees working in the stores. They still have corporate offices

Maybe these corporations should take a look at Publix, which is an employee owned company or Wegmans that is one of the country's top companies to work for. They are both rated excellent for being both customer and employee friendly with top yearly profits.

The high school drop outs working the the store have no idea bout how to run a a business, what products cost, or what the total overhead is. If the "top dogs"listened to the idiots working in the stores, they wouldnt stay open 6 months.

Lowes and home depot managers go to each others stores and check prices regularly. Those idiots could have picked up a weekly sale paper for food lion and ingles. The location sucks.

Lowes is just like many other companies. They listen to the top dog's that sit in the corporate offices all day instead of the employees out in the store's. If employees are telling you that prices in your area are too high then you should listen and reduce the prices.

I hate to see this coming, soon Ashe County will be a "Ghost Town"!

Apps is right their prices are much higher and when you walk in the door the whole store smells like rotten fish. Ingles does well because the store can be seen as food lion. Sitting on that hill out of sight has some impact. They better change their strategy or shut the doors on all their stores. They think they are a little Harris Teeter and they are not even close.

Ingles did all the right things to compete when Walmart came in, I don't think Lowes did. I did try to support Lowes but Ingles is a very pleasant place to shop with competitive prices. They appear to be thriving.

What would you have the County leaders do to stop this? The grocery business is a tough one, razor thin margins, if any costs were moving up , like rent, that could push the store over the edge to not being profitable enough to be maintained.

I hate to see businesses close, but does anyone actually shop there. The prices were higher than the other stores. They did away with their fresh meat department a few years ago. I think that hurt them. The only thing they had going for them was their beer selection.

Do you think they should keep it open as a charity to Wilkes residents? How about you tell your employer that you'll give him back your paycheck just because you want to help keep things in Wilkes

Just heard the news that our local Lowes Food Store is closing. Don't you just love Corp America! Pretty soon there is nothing going to be left in this county. You will need to travel out of the county to buy everything. Our county leaders are doing nothing to keep any industry or anything else here. What are the residents of the county suppose to do? Leave I guess and turn over everything to the ------!
