Moving an average size house from Deep Gap to Jefferson is around $16,000

When it is all said and done, unless you can do all the wiring, plumbing, masonry work, etc yourself, it is not worth it. I had one moved by the infamous bunch of stooges in WJ. Can't remember their name, but it was not Bare. The price was crazy.

When you think about moving a house remember it has to be brought up to code before you can get power on it. Also Blue Ridge, Skyline, etc have to be paid to raise their wiring to get the house under it as it goes down the road. DOT has to issue permits for the size and weight.

Not a simple project.

They need to widen 221 in front of the Corner Store. Traffic gets crazy there from 5-6

The houses are sold by the DOT to the highest bidder if the owner doesn't want to buy it back from the state.

None that are being moved are for the original owners

I see that a couple of houses on 221 are getting ready to be moved due to the 221 widening project. I wonder how much it costs to move a house? Seems like the owners might be better off buying something else?
