I'll stick to my old SW MP45. I popped a few stray cats last night at the community cookout and it left a hole about the size of a golf ball on the other side of them. Family spring time fun at its finest.

Weapons used in officer related shootings should be returned after the investigation, especially if it's ruled justifiable. Guns don't really become outdated. And how many deputies have actually retired? You can have wear and tear cause failure, but most barneys only draw their weapons to qualify. So wearing out seems unlikely.

The most popular service pistol for law enforcement is Glock. I believe they are usually somewhere between $500 and $600. But Glock has special pricing for law enforcement, so I think you might take another $100 off that. However, some departments have been switching to the FN 5-7. Those are around $1200 each.

If memory serves me did this wanting to buy guns by the sheriff come up a few years ago? Anyone remember why he didn't get them then or did he get some?

Just how much does a gun cost? 40 grand will buy enough for an army I would think. Still I would have to ask when a gun is sold to a retired barney as its against the law to give county property away or one is worn out why are they not replaced when this occurs?

Retiring deputies usually get to keep their service weapons. And the ones used in the deputy involved shootings are confiscated and held.. And yes over the years i'm sure some are showing signs of wear, as well as becoming outdated. So I say sure let him spend the money...

"According to Williams, the office's supply of weapons is growing short, and he would like to use a portion of the new $40,000 to purchase new guns and equipment. Whatever funds remain will be used to help pay for the new fire training center" from this article: http://ashemountaintimes.co...31438.html

Now my question would be why is the office supply of weapons growing short, do they not require deputies to turn in their firearms when they leave service?

While I'm sure you were being sarcastic, wear and tear may have claimed some over the years, when was the last time the Sheriff's office purchased new weapons? Does anyone know?

I guess they've wore the triggers out on the old ones

Why is the sherif asking f for these? The old ones seem to do a fine job of killing people, so put the money somewhere else.
