Poor old Ashe

In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. The reason: The country applies the "Housing First" concept. Those affected by homelessness receive a small apartment and counselling - without any preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected thus make their way back into a stable life.

Tabs thats a very good question. I don't think a homeless shelter is a solution. What is needed is affordable housing. Not condos, not rooms in a hotel and not more appartments in West Jefferson. Not everyone wants to live crammed up.on someone else. Personally the farther I can stay from my neighbor the better I like it. A good neighbor and friend on the Mulatto once asked me why instead of moving my mobile home across from her where the old house burned I chose to put it a half mile down the road. I wanted the peace and quiet. If I wanted to cuss my then husband I didn't want the whole neighborhood listening. Where I am now you can't cuss a cat without neighbors listening in. Now while sometimes it can be entertaining, most of the time I could actually care less. Every person should have a home. Its that simple. I just read an article today on the 20 countries in the would with the fewest homeless. One of those countries actually gives a plot of land and a house to people. Not going to happen in Ashe or the US for that matter at least unless you are an illegal. The problem as I see it in the US and I could be wrong which I doubt, is that this country spends too much time and money trying to save other countries and not enough taking care of their own people. People in the US don't stop to think it doesn't take a big house and 50 acres to live. Nor is it necessary to try to keep up with everyone else. Thats why some calk me krazy is I feelno need to have a bigger fancier house, anewer car or an ermine violin because someone else has one. **** to me even acamper and a little place to raise a garden makes me happy as a clam.

True but not everyone can pay what the market will bear. What happens when people start letting those rentals sit empty and go elsewhere?? If people can't afford a roof over their head in Ashe County where is the incentive to work here?? See the problem yet??? I would bet some employers in Ashe County are beginning to see the point. Its not people don't want to work, its because they see no need to keep bailing water out of a sinking ship. If you spent years training to say be a vet for instance, are you going to set up a practice in Ashe County where you can't afford to live or will you go elsewhere. Commonsense says you will go where you can afford to live and where people have enough money left after necessities to afford your services. Somethibg sokner or later has to break and it will in Ashe County. Then people will find where their greed is sending them.

Its getting hot and heavy on the big site with discussions about high rents in Good old Ashe County. For example you can now rent a condo complete with plenty of black mold crawling on the walls in good old WJ for a piddly little 22 hundred dollars a month. **** some neighbors are getting that for 500 dollars a month and they throw in rats and roaches free plus you pay extra for your water.
