I believe that LEO's are exempt from the law for some reason. I'm sure it is buried in some of the statues but I don't find an exemption listed other than for a mental condition of phobia, which might apply generally to the LEOs in Ashe County.

Can someone explain to me how even in 2015, a representive of the local sherif's department can ride around without a seatbelt?
