So when is Elmer Fudd resigning from commissioner?

The issue though may be the grants that were received in recent years. I want to say they did have some stipulations on them about keeping the airport functioning for so many years, or the money has to be returned. I dont think they were long periods, say maybe 10 years and we should be near the end. But the problem is they keep going after more grants which end up restarting the clock. Cut the spending on the airport to a minimum, run the clock out and lease it out for a $1 a year.

Pointman your question about the legality of closing the landing strip made me want to look too. I did and I found where two county owned airports which were much lager than Ashe were closed by the county in the state they were in.

I also found that Trumps budget would likely do the job for us by cutting the federal funds to these little landing strips.

I agree ripper. That landing strip is nothing more than a money pit. That said, I wonder if the county actually could shut the landing strip down, after taking so much money for the state and feds?

With Elmer Fudd gone maybe the rest will end this blowing of money on lawyers with the lawsuit the county cant win-----the asphalt plant. Seems Elmer was being led like a drunk to a bottle. Over a hundred grand already and counting.

Then least we forget that money sucking airport. Sell it, lease it, or shut it down. It does nothing for the economics of the county. It only serves a few rich home owners,.

You have forgotten one key part though. The county commissioners get to determine how much money the town receives from certain sources like the sales tax. So as a commissioner he can affect his police department budget but funneling more money to the towns.

As much as I want to agree with you, I can’t. Rose has played a big role in all this chaos but unfortunately his position as police chief is town and not county. That’s where Roark had an issue because he was holding two county government positions at the same time.

Aye and there are others of us who have said he's in violation.

Rose should resign as well. Not only for his actions but he shouldn't have been a commissioner in the first place. Take a look at what is happening in Spencer, NC. The police chief was elected alderman and she is being told she can't hold elected office.

Not sure of the specifics, indeed the article is light on specifics. I'm pretty sure it has to do with his quid pro quo and an attempt to be sure he's not prosecuted for it.

I am still waiting to hear how this is all our fault. Are not we the bad guys? Are we not guilty of sin after sin after sin? Show us how we caused this to happen.

Scratch that, I would feel bad. They don’t deserve the cardboard box.

Cherri, to further expand on your point, anyone that’s we’ve criticized on this site, if their lives are ruined, it’s because of their own doing. It’s been their own actions and their own scheming against the public they are supposed to work for that has ruined their lives. If they are forced to live in a cardboard box down at the landfill, I won’t feel bad for them.

Cherri, sweety, if someone doesn’t want to be scrutinized publicly for their actions, they have a couple options. First, don’t run for public office. That way their business is just that, their business. But if they can’t handle that and must run, then their business is our business. So their second choice is don’t do stupid stuff like break the law or steal from the public, like getting themselves a county job at the same time.

They all did it on their own. Look how many lives bufurt hurt. To try and blame goashe is just like Hillary did after she lost the election. They did it to themselves. They are not above the laws of the state of NC.
