I completely agree. The purpose of the site has always been to freely discuss local issues and topics, with the belief that anonymity brings honesty This is something you can't really get anywhere else.

Along with that, we should be able to have some fun chats, share jokes, etc. Fights are inevitable, but those should be restricted to Private Messages.

Adults have the ability to disagree with someone on an issue, but not resort to insults and name-calling. We also have the ability to disagree on one topic, without carrying that disagreement over to other threads.

But on the flip side, site regulars also have the responsibility to report these types of posts so that they can be removed. When they're not reported quickly then those fights take over, and the damage is already done. If you want the site to continue to succeed, then not only do you have to ignore trolls yourself, but you also have to report them problems so that they don't discourage others from posting.

The site should be informative as well as entertaining....And both can be achieved without all the name calling and vulgarities I'm sure...

Exactly.....

Here are some good examples, actually.

1. Trying to call someone out by name, whether it's true or false, is a real problem. Even if he told you his name, readers may not know that, all they see is that someone knows his name. So they're definitely hesitant to post, for fear that you'll find THEIR name.

2. Wife's reply has nothing to do with the topic, she's just insulting underdog. So readers that don't know underdog's history just see an unwarranted attack.

3. Underdog's reply is just as bad as Wife's for the same reason, but then he went low and vulgar with it. So instead of encourage Wife to come back and post, you went low and are now encouraging her to stop posting again.

I really need all of you guys to relax a little bit and try to have some fun here

First off my name isn't Timmy, so you're either talking to someone else or possibly one of your imaginary friends...Adios

underdog2

So Timmy let me get this straight. Do you want the site owner to remove any post that is offensive to you? How about if your opinion is proven wrong and you cant accept it and start sending nasty grams? How about if my sources are light years ahead of yours?

Mr.Clodhopper

Everyone should be entitled to their opinion, whether you agree or disagree with it. It's just "their" opinion.

But they should be able to express their opinion freely, without all the bickering and name calling. This site as far as I know doesn't revolve around one or two posters. It is a open forum for discussions and a place for posters to express their opinions on multiple subjects.

(NOTE): This is just my opinion and doesn't reflect the views or opinions of anyone else.

I wasn't talking to you, underdog... my comment was specifically directed to Aficionados. But you have to admit that the two of you combined have run off more than your fair share of regular posters.

But I do know that mobile is a large part of the issue. I've watched this for years: mobile users look at fewer pages, and rarely post on any of the sites. As mobile traffic has increased, posts have decreased proportionately, across all of our sites. Mobile was only 10% of our traffic in 2014, but now it's closer to 50% so the change is noticeable.

It's not a bad idea, though, to create a thread like that. I've had threads like that on GoWilkes a few times, but I don't think I've extended them to GoAshe.

I dont buy in that 100% of the problem is that I have run people off the site. I think you had a lot of older people using the site that did one of two things, they died or they grew bored. Why they grew bored is a good question. There have been threads on the site that have singled out certain persons but the majority defended them.

Perhaps its time for you Goashe to do an open thread not the pms you have gotten and just ask what the majority would like. People using a mobile device are looking at something and its not a site with one post in 4 days.

So, after a few years of me asking you to stop trying to run people off, and you claiming that you're not... are you now finally seeing that maybe you WERE running people off?

Because I seriously doubt that people aren't posting because I moderate GoAshe too much.

Sure, I copied a few threads over yesterday. And the number of visitors to the Community Voice from Saturday to Sunday more than doubled, so that seemed to go over pretty well.

Here's some interesting data for you... pageviews on GoAshe for each October of the last few years, straight from Analytics:

2013 - 750,925
2014 - 586,324
2015 - 774,476
2016 - 946,926

You can always see the real-time numbers, just click on "Services" and log in to the "Ad Manager". 99.2% of our traffic came from North Carolina, and the average pageviews per session was 4.90.

So last month was our busiest October in at least 4 years (I didn't look before 2013), but we had a lot less posts. The classifieds were very busy, but not the Community Voice. Why do you think that is?

Obviously, people are on the site, they're just not posting.

I think the issue is a mix of people moving to mobile (roughly 50% of our traffic comes from mobile now, and mobile users rarely post), and they just don't want to be attacked when they post.

The site will only be as successful as you (the readers) want it to be, so you guys that have been here for awhile need to be advocates for the site. If you want it to continue to succeed, then take some ownership and encourage people to post, instead of fighting with one another and calling them names. Believe me, that's the only way it works.

Really? This site just went over 4 days without one new post. Then the only new post was from the admin. Now he has linked posts from the other site to try to make this one look active.

I've a news flash for you: Jason's Go NC sites have always been popular; Thanx, Jason, for putting up these wonderful sites.

What would you like to talk about?

I suppose we could talk about the supposed decline in County Unemployment and Underemployment last month, but then again I suspect that has more to do with people just giving up than really finding jobs, or finding temporary seasonal jobs.
