The commissioners are considering starting a county owned Ambulance service

I must say the county has no business in the airport/landing strip business for sure based on the fact that only 30 some rich second homeowners are the only ones benefiting from it and of course the favorite sons the Vanoys.

Avery does rate a second look producing the family of bufurts.

I'm not a fan of expanding government bureaucracy when the private sector can perform the task, and will likely do it more efficiently. Also, given what I know about Avery County, I wouldn't base any plans on what they do without some serious investigation. Remember, Bufurt was from Avery County.

I am not poe or Sullivan nor did I bid. We all thought back in 2013 that Poe would be re-awarded the contract. We all were wrong. I was for the county taking over the service back then also.

Last bid

Well dog. If in one breath you are complaining that you lost bid , and you were lowest bud. Then in next breath say you were given competitors last bud, are you bragging or complaining.

Creek would you care to decipher your last post for the dog?

Yes piss ant I would support a county owned EMS, I think it would be best for the employees and the citizens of Ashe county. The ems in Avery was started in 1994 so it is relativity young.

btw get rid of the landing strip and pay for a ems in 1 year or less.

Dung Beetle are you trying to scare me to death saying you could be in favor of a county run ambulance service? It's like you became a Democrat overnight Heavens to Betsy we can't have that!

Dog, I don't think if I lost a contract after I was given my competitors last bid, I don't think I would be out complaining that I lost bid even though I had competitors bid given to me. Are you bragging or complaining.

How bad are the benefits that Sullivan is giving his workers?

underdog2

Creek I had a source remind me of a few facts. In 2012 the mouth breathers looked into the county running the service. They instead put it out for bids and Blue Ridge was the low bidder but the county gave it to Sullivan I think because he promised to add a 3rd unit. In 2016 Sullivan was given an extension on the contract for a total of 10 years so as to get his start up costs back.

The employees want the county to run it for county benefits which includes retirement. If you look around the state say Forsyth, Guildford, and Mechlenburg they all are begging for employees and have been on the news saying they are on life support. We dont want that in Ashe. If Alleghany and Avery can support a county owned service Ashe can also.

But the conversation wasn't really about any specific procedure either. Just a general discussion. Types of surgery probably play into it too

I believe his attitude is of the newer view that group facilities are Petri dishes. They should be a last resort

I had an ortheo surgeon tell me the other day that rehab facilities are for old people and just a place to get sick. He never suggested anyone to go there if they had other options.

I find it hard to believe an ortheo surgeon suggested you don't go to a rehab center. Every time I have had to have replacement surgery, or a family member has had surgery, the hospital didn't want to release me until I had either a rehab center to go to or home health coming to my home. And when the care giver has to have surgery, someone, somewhere, must take care of the patient. Not everyone has enough family members to take care of elderly parents.
And by the way, what does underdog have against Sullivan. Sounds personal.

What we need is some real numbers of calls, charges, so as to establish facts and not fictional guesses. Anyone up for the task, say an employee of Sullivan?

Millions, Wow, I should get set up in the ambulance business like these folks mentioned here. Who's with me?

Respite care is done in hospice homes not nursing homes. Nursing homes are not holiday inns.

I had an ortheo surgeon tell me the other day that rehab facilities are for old people and just a place to get sick. He never suggested anyone to go there if they had other options. The stats still show the nursing homes are for people dying.

Underdog you are so 60's in your thinking. Nursing homes now are used for rehab, respite care to give caregivers a break for a month or so, many different reasons. Not just a dumping ground anymore.
