Btw, drug addiction is a protected handicap. But active illegal use is not protected. This also applies to employers.

Backwash, the fair housing act says a lessor can't discriminate against race, religion, sex, national origin, handicap, or family status. Everything else is open for their discretion.

Yes, they can. It is their property. All government ran ran housing has been this way for several years now. I was a smoker at one point. I never smoked in a rental if the landlord said no smoking. Rules are rules. I've been in some homes where people let their dogs crap all over the floor. They don't even bother to clean it up. So yes a landlord has the right to say no pets. Again it is their property!

Just say vapes and regular cigs then. Can a landlord dictate that?

And btw Backwash, being that marijuana is still illegal, you can't do it in a rented home.

What if the rule was no smoking pot or vapes or anything in the privacy of your own home?

You are an ! No, it is the property of the owner. Their rulers or do not rent from them. I am a former renter and followed rules. If I were a landlord I would have rules in place to protect my property.

All the other threads are completely derailed now. Nice work Charlie. Arrow brought up Ashe landlords. May as well bicker about them too. Here's your question fellers, should renters have to follow any rules, like do landlords have to let renters have pets and smoke and party if they want to?
