A lot of the price depends on transportation and volume. I was in Jamaica for a work conference last week. A small box of Kelloggs Raisin Bran ****7.99 USD, and a gallon of milk was $9.93 USD.

Exactly right Cooper. Merchants will raise the price until it reaches the point at which people quit buying. The only power the consumer has is just that. Quit buying from that retailer.

What is the "spread" between sirloin steak and rib eye's?
If you don't want to pay the price that the merchant has then go some where else.
Grow up.

According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) the difference in price nationally between ethanol blends and regular, 84 to 88 octane gasoline is 9.4% the last ten days.

Well someone should know why the spread started at 15 cents and is 43 today.

The spread was up to .39 the other day when I was back to get mower gas.
I asked the girl at the window about it, but she didn't know what I was talking about. lol

Ethanol, like any alcohol based product is based on a water alcohol blend, with the water either filtered, evaporated , dehydrated out or chemically removed. Ethanol is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water vapor directly from the atmosphere. Because absorbed water dilutes the fuel value of the ethanol (although it suppresses engine knock) and may cause phase separation of ethanol-gasoline blends, containers of ethanol fuels must be kept tightly sealed. This high miscibility with water means that ethanol cannot be efficiently shipped through modern pipelines, like liquid hydrocarbons, over long distances.[33] Mechanics also have seen increased cases of damage to small engines, in particular, the carburetor, attributable to the increased water retention by ethanol in fuel.[34] Wikipedia is a good source for more info.

I was there today to get a can of ethanol free for the mower. The spread is up to 35 cents, 2.44/2.79.
That's what I thought pointman, a wash at 10%. I've never had any ethanol related issues anyway.

It's the winter. Combination of freezing temps and extended periods of not being used. It causes the ethanol to destroy filters and seals and even fuel lines.

I have never been able to keep a gas engine running up here on anything other than pure gasoline. I don't know where the elevation cut-off is but somewhere above 1300' no small engine of mine has ever worked long on ethanol, when it would work just fine at around 500'. On top of that, I need a can of ether and to clean the plugs every little whip stich.
At least the wife can make candy here, in the flat lands it would always turn back to sugar.

That's what I've found too. I have debated how much the added power is worth, and the maintenance of not running ethanol through an engine. But being it's impossible to never put ethanol in a vehicle, it kills that gain any way. But I do only run pure gas in any of my small engines

My personal research shows a 10% increase in gas mileage with the non-ethanol gas. Plus, a noticeable increase in power. So, if the spread between the non ethanol and ethanol added gas doesn't exceed 10%, then it's a wash.

They have increased the spread between ethanol and ethanol free from 15 to 30 cents. So I am going back to using ethanol blend and buying it somewhere else.

It will be hard for Wilco to get some people back. One or two cents a gallon in a car that holds 18 gallons is not enough to move me. The new pumps are faster. The location is better and it's easier to get to a pump.
