The bottom line here is the fire club failed to pay the insurance bill full well knowing they would be breaking the law by doing so. Mum mouth is not an option here on any of the participants in this fiasco. Mouth breathers from both counties included.

Joseph T, I'd like to know how you think the fire department who is funded by the county taxpayers can go out here on calls with a $150,000 fire truck with volunteers running it "Without Insurance"!
Who pays for an accident, fire fighter getting injured?

Have you heard of liability?

My Big Ol Butt.

I'M SO MAD!

Well lets see you can post a bond, or deposit a certain amount of money with the state or become what is considered self insured just to name a few. Now none of these may be a viable way for you or me or the FD but it is another way to do it which makes fairplay's post at 4:49 incorrect

Max, a pumper truck that carries water is usually going to run $400,000 to $500,000. Pretty much all trucks around here carry water.

In the Mid 90s you can buy a decent Fire Engine from a reputable fire apparatus manufacturer for around $200k. Forward the time machine to 2014, a new fire engine costs range from $525 to $600k. Lets forward the time machine to 20 years from now. What will the price of a fire engine be? If the current trend continues with a faster increase in price then the rise of inflation. If you do the math it will be around 1 Million dollars for a cookie cutter fire engine with all the Airpacks, Radios, Hose, Nozzles, and other equipment onboard. The accountability level will be higher of ensuring the right driver operators are behind the wheel. Now max you moron welcome to the 20th century.

BS!

Know your roll Jack! Most departments buy trucks with grants.

A fully functional fire truck for our county will run around $150 to $250 thousand.

Where do you think you are, New York City with a 250 ladder truck.

Sit Down, Shut Up, and Quit Ruining Our Lives.

I cant believe I am reading this taking place this day and time. We have a group of mouth breathers on both sides of the border that have no idea the severity of what has taken place in that club house. Is the board all family of Welch? Are they getting kick backs from Welch? Good lord.

Skittles, you don't really save any money. But the state does allow you to be bonded instead of having vehicle insurance.

JT, please tell us how the fire department can operate a emergency vehicle without insurance?

I'm sure the county taxpayers will appreciate this, so we can save a fortune with the other departments!

I would agree with you on that

But if they can't afford insurance, I doubt they can afford a bond.

No they can not respond to calls. It is illegal to operate an uninsured vehicle of any kind.

No its not.

There are a couple ways to operate a vehicle without insurance.

It's called misappropriation of funds (otherwise known as embezzlement) oh and tax fraud. Probably not going to worm their way out of all this......

Ohhh I for some reason thought the lapse was on the property I didnt even think about the fire engines. So they dont have a dime laying around and we just went to a new budget year to pay the insurance? The state insurance commission is going to declare them a 10 rating and additional insurance bills are going to be sent out. Does one of the adjoining departments have a spare truck to park at Todd?

Why on earth would a Volunteer Fire Department loan anyone money to start a business? Seems like this has gone on at the fire boys club in Todd. Man should be discharged and collateral seized for the outstanding amount.

They have been paying Welch and his mini-me, but have not issued any 1099's or W-2's. The IRS could get involved and revoke their non profit status and start seizing assets. Non profits making loans to members is definitely a proscribed act. It seems Todd VFD has a very weak board of directors that is shirking their oversight and management duties. I wonder if they realize every member of the board is jointly and severally liable to the IRS for any wrongdoing? I think this is really going to get messy.
