Tao, the thing about Baptist is it's a very undefined denomination. There are some organized branches like Southern Baptists that have defined covenants and doctrines and expect their member churches to adhere to these same standards. But at the same time, anyone can start a church and put a sign that says baptist out front. You can't get away with that with Methodist or Presbyterian.
I remember we had a thread on here where this roofer boy from Wilkes and is a preacher on the side with a flock of about 10. He too would not condemn the westboro cult either. He would argue with a sign post too. btw his brother is a snake handling preacher too from down in Texas or Mississippi I cant remember which.
You answered your own question more or less. Baptist preachers are the god of the church that they are paid from. Its their way or the highway. No baptist preacher would dare talk about another baptist preacher or church. but they wont hold back on the Catholic church and Pope.
I am surprised that someone doesn't ask Westboro Baptist Church to have a prayer vigil at the Sheriffs Office... After all, Billy Graham is an american southern baptist evangelical minister... as was Westboro Baptist Churchs, Fred Phelps... Both claim to read from the same book & both claim to be guided by the Holy Spirit... Which makes one minister right, and the other wrong?
Westboro Church sounds like the kind of church William Sands would be a member of. He's the biggest hypocrite of them all. Regardless of your political opinions and view points, how do you call yourself a Christian and attempt to stop a religious event. Everyone is entitled to their freedom of religion and if anyone wants to display it in a public place they should be allowed to do so without the chairman of commissioners attempting to stop it. Had it been any other religious group he would have been silenced immediately.
Lightweight the baptist church has done nothing to me personally. I have just simply seen their hypocrite ways by members as well as the preachers. Theres no denying that. You sit there each Sunday and listen to a man brain wash and threaten you to pay him all in the name of the lord. You are gullible.
Wow, they help with project graduation. Boy that is a real help to the community. Its nothing more than an advertisement for the church. They would be better severed having a cook out up at Margate for the employees and families.
Jr you are absolutely correct about Ashe really cares. I also know that some of the churches support things like the rescue squad and Project Graduation. I'm sure that a lot is done for individuals in need also , but churches typically don't go around bragging and saying look what we did.
Doesn't the Baptist Church run Ashe Really Cares? I think it's unfair some comments made here about the local baptist churches. They do indeed help many in the county, even those not Baptist.
As for why they've not condemned Westboro publicly, I"m not sure I've ever heard them condemn any group or organization publicly. I suppose the news paper such as we have hasn't called any of them for comment.
WBTV and Charlotte Observer have covered the Westboro intentions, hopefully like when they were going to protest in Greensboro they never show up.
Jack, you say no one is asking the churches to protest but that is exactly what you said in previous post. Go back and look. " Second where are all these baptist churches you said would join forces and protest the wellsboro baptist cult." By the way, please don't put words in my mouth. I am sorry that somewhere along the line, christians, or more specifically, baptists have done something to make you have such animosity toward them. As I recall, your father was one of those "leader chief brain washers" as you call them. As to your suggestions, if the churches do go out and do or say anything in public, you would be the first to say they should shut up and go back to their church and leave everyone else alone. But now you say "where are the churches?" Can't have it both ways. I have no problem with you Jack and I truly hate that something has caused you to view Christians in a bad light. I know there are many false ones out there but many truly want to serve the Lord and live the best we can.

One suggestion is that the baptists churches come out and have silent prayer in support of the family. Or you dont do that in the baptist church.
