For a good comparison, this is the Avery county humane society
http://www.delcompany.com/A...Humane.htm
Think there is any chance of ashe coming up with the funding to build a pound with solar electric and marble tile in the lobby? They brought in Vince Gill and Amy Grant for a private concert to raise money for the construction.

It's located at the hospital. Do you know how Avery county can afford to keep a YMCA open? One could also pose the same question in regards to how the hospital at the same location was built. They have lots and lots of money. Old Linville CC, Grandfather CC, Linville Ridge, Elk River, Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, Diamond Creek, just to name the vacation resorts that come to mind without any effort.

The Wilkes Y had so many issues with the Southern Folks never been in a pool. The pool was usually closed for 3 days a week to remove feces. You let folks in for free there are usually bad consequences.

Actually finny, I do understand.. My father in law has been a business owner since the early 60's, I am fully aware not all income is 100% profit..

Coop, these people don't understand what's involved in operating a business. They think all income is 100% profit.

Hunter - have your friend at the YMCA give you the balance sheets. I will bet that they have all kinds of fund drives begging for corporate and private donations. If the individual monthly memberships have paid all the expenses, amortized the loan on the building and paid all the salaries - I will admit I was wrong - naked - on the courthouse steps.

Chicken coop, if Wilkes YMCA is barely making it, why did they just do a major expansion? Know the chief exec in Wilkes, he is telling a different story than you

Coop is right. Also, the YMCA cuts deals with the local government in rural areas that requires the local government to put up an investment in the beginning. Be it property or liquid investment. And the deal they sign leaves the local government holding the tab for additional expenses if the Y decides to leave because they are losing money.

It will not be coming here or Watauga county. The wilkes ymca is barely making it after Lowes moved all their people to Mooresville.
Watauga can't support one because of the large number of employees at ASU that can use the university facilities for free.
Ashe can't support a YMCA mainly because of the seasonal demographics.

How many $35 memberships do you think they would actually sell in Ashe?

Cooper, Well it worked for a little but now has many diverse people exercising there. I would support a YMCA being in Ashe. However there are certain people or ( scumbags) I wouldn't want coming there. One in particular started an attempt against local business.

The original purpose of the YMCA was to provide a platform to segregate the jews and the negros from the rich white kids.

I don't really see a need for a YMCA in Ashe, not today, tomorrow, or ever!!
