Hello

I always thought if you volunteer for something it is because you are passionate about what you volunteer for.
I do not have enough passion to become a volunteer fire person.
I greatly appreciate those who do volunteer

I volunteer to be happy and by doing that I stay away from danger which is why I am a recluse and have no physical interaction with my fellow chimps with thumb.
People scare me more than a wreck or a fire and that is why I have my friend. Its name is bong!! And I believe if more people had a friend like bong this world would be a much better place...

I hope everyone has a great and safe day today.
I hope all the volunteers can volunteer to be good volunteers and volunteer to get along with each other

I almost forgot. Hippie friend and Santa got arrested in South Beach yesterday. Hippie was doing his fish and bread trick and PETA showed up and had hippie and Santa arrested.
I am going to start a fund hippie and santa page so I expect all to contribute for their safe release. Some talk about deporting hippie so we need to hurry

In a time where volunteer departments are losing members and unable to recruit new ones ALL volunteer organizations should be supporting one another and working together not slinging mud and tearing each other down.

To the person who created multiple profiles, started this thread and made comments under several user names: Your chief should be ashamed of you, Are you there to help the citizens or to stroke your ego? Grow up and focus on supporting your neighbors AND your neighboring departments.

Q you just gave the best excuse/reason for the fire departments to put in their own rescue. They could start with 4 in fire club houses and see how it goes.

Because we live in low-income rural area we have to rely on volunteers for some services, as these volunteers have to respond to emergencies from many and various locations the response time is going to be greater than it would be from full time responders.

In larger and wealthier communities they have full time professionals and they are available from a central location such as a fire station 24/7. However the residents of those communities pay higher taxes for these services.
My suggestion is if you're not prepared to pay higher taxes for professional emergency services then learn to live with what you've got.

The rumor mill in Ashe Co is in full steam, we see.... funny how the fd's have their bloomers in a bunch over every little move the squad makes. How could they possibly take over all emergency ops in the county when that is not even in the realm of possibility? EM and all the fds have that tied up.

Ever since the squad came into existence, they've helped people all over the county. They do not have any paid members in their department, NOR do they receive tax money from the people of Ashe, unlike all 11 fire departments in the county. They get a small stipend from the county every year, JUST like all the 11 fire departments in the county, on top of the tax monies they already receive. Do some research or call the county office for the details. It's public record and has to be provided to you. I'm sure the county manager, the head of EM or the Lead Chair of the Commissioners would be glad to hand out this information to inquiring parties. Some fds get hundreds of thousands from the county for tax base and their quarterly allotment. Interesting.
The squad works off of fundraisers, grants, and the small portion given to them each year from the county. The squad is expected to cover every square in of Ashe on calls they are dispatched to. They don't get tax money from all the citizens of Ashe like the fd does. They do not have members sitting at the building 24/7 because they work for a living. Hence the volunteer status. It's not like it was in the good ol days where you could leave your workplace if you were a volunteer to go handle a fire or wreck or whatever made your pager go off. Unlike some fd's who have members sitting at the department all day, listening to every bleep on the radio, waiting for the tones to go off so they can run lights and sirens to whatever call - some getting paid to do so. If you get paid to run calls, what does that do to your volunteer status for taxes?? Just curious. Some fds have been known to pack their rosters w/ people who don't hold RT certifications, just so they can have the word Rescue attached to their department. It's sad when you roll up on a scene behind the fd that has that word on their big truck, and don't know how to use the appropriate equipment that that word was made for... when the squad has to cut someone out of a car because said fd didn't know how..... the list is long. It's nothing but a pissing contest between those who are smiling to your face and sticking that knife in your back a little deeper. Ashe Rescue is the only certified heavy rescue squad in this area, and people have no idea what that even means, especially the armchair wannabes in this chat group. They worked hard for all that certification, and there's not a fd in the county that would know what to do when it comes to certain rescue situations.
Maybe some of you should get up and go join the squad, and see what the truth is? That's the only way you'll ever really know.

Hello Cliffary

Thanks for responding.
BBW I am still not talking to you!!
I still dont understand why money is an issue when everyone is supposedly a volunteer. If people are paid then they should all be paid the same.

I asked the person who posted to explain to me but I guess my request for a little bit of information wasnt worth answering. Thanks
If you want support a dialogue will go a long way......

Hello Henry!!

Hope everyone has a great day!!
And remember, no reasonable person should believe a lawyer......

I don't know how long it's been since I've been hearing and seeing this constant carping about pretty well every service organization and some individuals in the county but I must say it's been too long. If you rednecks would get your heads out of your arses and get over the obsession that causes you to put invariably corrupt republicans in position of authority you might have less to whine about.

Wasn't it that the rainbow warriors known as the color guard for a free car from the rescue squad?

Mental some stations have paid people in them during the day. Now this could have increased at some club houses and the dog hasn't been informed.

Fins wasn't there some upset about a car and equipment a few years ago at the rescue squad?

Hello Fire People

I am glad you posted. I did not realize there would be competition between fire people. Aren't you all volunteers? If you are volunteers why is money an issue? If money is involved aren't all volunteers treated equally?
Puddinpie can you please explain the issue for me? I am not sure I understand?
Thanks

Oh look! Someone shook the hose jockeys out of the bushes and got them upset. This rumor has come up before and proven to be just that, a rumor. What is funny though is the hose jockeys crying about not getting what they want from the county when every time they make a request they get special money. They convinced the county to build them their own collective club house so they don't have to drive off the mountain for training. It's really hard to have any sympathy for the red light fetish brigade.

This is the same gang that built a wall for 10's of thousands. I really dont think they can post a bond to even bid on the ambulance service for the county. Sullivan should have it tied up. However the northern and western parts of the county are basically on their own when you have to wait an hour for a ambulance.

The fire departments should be forming their own rescue squads. You do see all around that rescue is run with a fire engine now and all of you have a engine. Thereby the Ashe rescue could finally shut the doors. Creston should look at renting Sullivan a bay for a unit and a couple of beds.

I sure hope you all share this information with your chief. I know I sure am. This makes me angry to hear. I leave my paid job to go run calls as volunteer and never once complain. Rescue should be man enough to do the same instead of cry to the county to be paid first. I can't tell you the last time I seen any of them on a call in my district. Community needs to see who their true hero's are and where their tax money is going.

Boy that would be a great way for this county to see a massive change in leadership by giving the rescue squads anything after the way they have treated the fire departments. Im pretty sure all the fire departments could band together along with their familys and swing a local election.

Hope that the county will see through them. No response to back the department on fire standbys or medical calls. We are all volunteers but they only respond to wrecks. If it is anything medical or fire related, they are no shows. they tried this years ago and it didn't work. If anything county should take their money to fire departments who actually respond.

So I hear the Ashe Rescue Squad is on a mission to take over all the emergency operations in the county. There are a few in that department that are to lazy to respond to calls, but somehow feel they should be in charge of fire departments, ambulance, and rescue.
