Who should we run for school board?

My question is why Mrs Eldreth going to the school during school hours and interrupting teachers tryin do do their job? I guess that’s why they are calling. Let the teachers do their job. Eldreth is just and old disgruntled teacher herself. She is just a pawn for some of the losers in the last election.

All school board members should be parents anyway. What do old farts and disgruntled teachers know about helping our kids. They all have an agenda.

The superintendent works for the BOE. But all school employees work for the superintendent. Board members have no direct authority over teachers or any other school employees, just like the commissioners have no direct authority over county employees

Ok, you want to hear what people (teachers &staff) on the inside think? Most are not happy. They are bullied and told how to teach and are continuously pulled out of the class room for training. Everything is about testing/scores and how we can make administrators look good. No one cares that the students are stressed out. The central office staff wants you to teach their way, and if you are brave enough to question them, they have a meltdown in front of a county wide meeting......very unprofessional SP. Also, it has always been the understanding of ACS employees that the superintendent served and is governed by the Board of Education and not vise versa. If that is the case, why has Mrs Yates told all school receptionists that she is to be notified immediately if Diane Eldreth enters one of the 5 schools?? Why just Diane? Does Yates feel Diane is playing on the teachers team and not hers? All true statements.... Check them out for yourself. We need more Diane Eldreths and less of the other 4. The students of Ashe County are about so much more than a test score.

Admission Requirements Master of School Administration

Personal statement including career goals and aspirations, research interests or focus and other relevant experiences Transcripts from all institutions attended (except NC State) Teaching experience in K-12 public or private (3 years preferred) Current professional resume. Three letters of recommendation. One recommendation is to be from current supervisor. Minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA (preferred)

Note: All application materials must be submitted through the Graduate School’s online application process only (see ‘Apply Now’ button at top of this page). No hard copies will be accepted.

All of the College and Universities I checked required at least three years of teaching experience for ANY of the various Masters in Education Administration. The info I pasted above is from NCSU and ALL of their affiliated institutions in NC. In addition, U of MD, UVA, and USC all require three years of teaching experience to apply.

Oh, and teachers dont know crap about running buses, managing cafeterias, or handling serious discipline issues.

Just because most principals have been teachers, does not mean it’s a requirement. And not all universities have the same requirements for a masters program.

While it logically makes sense for an administrator to have teaching experience, that’s not how the world works anymore. Organizations do not promote from the ground up. They hire management with specialty degrees thst have no experience in the field they are overseeing. But hey, they have s degree.

Fins started this thread and seems to be very educated. I have to agree with the troll. When I look at the 5 schools in the county, all principals and assistant principals were teachers before administrators.

This, however, is not true of superintendents. They do not have to be teachers first. Most are but not all were teachers first. Most do have a graduate degree. Bobby Ashley was not given the job because he didn't have a high school experience. The last three were all high school principals first. I do think this helps but is not required.

The former board has issues because they named Yates for a short time and never told the public that they extended her stay. That is not transparency or the truth. This should have been addressed with Ashe County taxpayers.

However, if you survey the state you will see that most principals all over the country have been teachers and most Superintendents have been principals. I disagree with some on this thread. If you know what is going on in education then you have to know how to handle buses, discipline, parents and know what it takes to be a teacher.

Hope more speak up.

To get your Masters to be a school administrator, you have to have three years of teaching experience before you can apply at a university. So, all principals should have been teachers first. Survey all the surrounding counties. All have been teachers first.

Your opinion is wrong. Rarely are administrators now former teachers

That’s your opinion jr. Administrators do need to be teachers as they supervise them and answer questions about their classrooms. That’s my opinion. Please learn how to spell principal.

While she is currently on the retirement track, Jane Lonon has an excellent reputation in management of a grant funded organization, and excels in team building and planning. Jane has the formal education, training and experience to be a strong School Board Member. Serving on a public board might not be in Jane's future plans, you did ask for suggestions.

I would hope someone who lives in the Northwest portion of the County could be identified to serve. While all the members are elected at large, it would be healthy to have a broad geographical representation on this policy making body.

Defamation...you might want to look that up.

If your claims are real, then file a complaint and let law enforcement do it's job. If they aren't shut up. The fact you've been spouting the same line for months shows you have no real evidence and everything you say is nothing more than bluster.

There is no requirement that a Superintendent have a teaching degree or experience teaching or being a principle. It's an administrative post. Teachers make horrible administrators. Administrators make horrible teachers.

So how do you think teachers become teachers? Stupi, at some point they have to get their first job.

And just once, form a coherent sentence. Your sentence structure is so poor, I have no idea what you are babbling about. Your whining about Yates has been proven unsubstantiated.

Trollie in order to be believable you are going to have to give specifics on the threats, the daughter, and Yates herself. So far you have only beat around a bush telling nothing.

Yates did nothing to me. We all know heels09 made friends with you. Everything said is the truth. Daughter had never been a teacher. Yates has never been a teacher, principal, assistant principal or a director. Her son is allowed to come and make threats and 9 people ran for school
Board. She’s left her legacy. Blue Ridge has all the money, her son can bully and cuss out people and our board members support someone who doesn’t have a license, was named interim, and supervises her daughter and allows her son to cuss others in public in front of other teachers. Fins... did he threaten you too? It’s okay. I know you are scared of him.
