Why do you want to be sheriff?

I do not think he ever worked there.

Oh I don’t either. I don’t think he works there any longer.

I don't think deplorable works at the SO at all.

To me, if you ever backed the corruption that was Bufurt, that makes you corrupt as well. It says a lot that "honest" Mochen is backed by the same pack of liars that that told us for over a year what a great Sherriff Bufurt was.

There is some speculation about who he is, but they are obviously trying to hedge their bets before the primary buttering up to Howell. Which is quite disconcerting- does this mean they are hoping to have someone in place they feel like they can control or can get something from in exchange for support? Any show of support from a Bufurt supporter isn't considered a benefit to say the least.
Very telling, indeed.

Which one of Bufurt’s Barneys is deplorable?

Ignorant????
Your puppet is sooooo knowledgeable he can't even pass the BLET block to transfer his law enforcement certification to this state.
Next stop, rocket science!

Dippy, what are you babbling about? Do you even know what you are talking about?

Yeah, boy. That's why a judge suspended the last Sherriff from office. You sir, are crazy.

So you think the elected Sheriff does not matter, you might want to educate yourself, I dare to say Mochen and Howell are aware of the powers of the office, it is the citizens that are ignorant. We need a Sheriff that understands this responsibility.

The duly elected sheriff of a county is the highest law enforcement official within a county. He has law enforcement powers that exceed that of any other state or federal official.

public information is right, the SROs are really just a feel good measure to make you think your kids are safe. AFter all the Parkland school in Florida had an SRO, who reported the shooter, and then stayed in his vehicle rather than confronting the shooter, had he done say his job 17 kids wouldn't have died.

The problem is that most people can't make a kill shot, even when necessary. In Vietnam for example the Army assumed half the platoon would miss their targets, half would hit the target in some location, but only 2-3 would actually make a kill shot. (An Army Platoon has 42 people in it for those that don't know).

While some law enforcement folks are a bit trigger happy, the majority couldn't shoot the target if they had to, psychologically they just aren't prepared to do that.

my vote is for Howell

Much better security measures could be purchased for the cost of SRO salaries instead of spending the money on a single door guard at each school.

I disagree with some regarding SROs. They do serve a valuable purpose, but they’re also low hanging fruit. There’s a reason they’re glorified security guards.

I doubt many would say Bufurt......he was an SRO for only a couple of weeks before kids got there. Mochen was an SRO for about a year. I never saw him more than a few feet from the front gate. He was welded to his patrol vehicle. As I drove into and exoded campus he never once looked up. He may have been asleep, or online. Good thing I was not trying to hurt people on campus.

Ask some of the parents if they or their children know who their school resource officer is - you might be very surprised.

The school resource officer is a joke. It gives the parents a nice warm, puppy dog, rainbow feeling - that their kids are being protected. The biggest threat to children are their parents who let them play violent video games, forget to teach them right from wrong and ignore them in general.

How much interaction do kids have with someone that sits in their car in the parking lot all day? I think the only interaction most kids have with the resource officer is the same amount they have with the superintendent’s secretary.

Do I need to remind everyone what a joke and a waste of money resource officers are?

You folks are overlooking one very important thing. The sheriff's office touches much more than 50% of the population. The Sheriff's Office hires, fires and directs those five school resource officers that protect and interact with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
While the Sheriff's office interacts to a lesser degree with all those fire, rescue and first responders, the hospital, other county offices and anyone who is the victim of a crime, those with relatives in the school system will likely be watching the sheriff's race closely.
