Why do you want to be sheriff?

I think FINS is right, I mean I accepted Obama's election and re-election, though I think he did a horrible job as President, frequently violated the Constitution, and ignored the separation of powers in the branches of government. Still I didn't get out and picket. I didn't demean the left or others for their choice, I just accepted it.
It's actually more important who is in Congress than who is in the Presidency. After all Congress is invested with the power of the purse, declaring war, and legislating. Though of course they passed the War Powers Act so that the President could go and attack anyone he deemed a national security threat (whether they posed a threat to the United States or not) so that they wouldn't have to take votes on declaring war like they are suppose to. Almost everyone we've attacked in the last 60 years have posed no threat to the United States of America.
Whoever the majority of those voting decides is who you have to accept whether you like it or not. That's true for all offices.

There are issues that I expect to see pop up with each candidate if. They are elected. I’ve already done the research and know what the skeletons are for each of them. I know what the shortcomings of all of them are. But if elected I can accept their legitimacy. Again, that’s not the same as being unhappy with a job performance. You seem to be missing that part.

Were it to go that way I doubt you will put up with foolishness for long.

You make the mistake of confusing acceptance and happiness as the same thing. I don’t have to be happy with a choice, but I can accept the outcome of an election.

If it were to go that way it will be very interesting to see how long you are willing to accept foolishness.

I can accept it if the majority of voters say that’s their wishes.

That would certainly give us something to do for a few more months.

PublicInfo is right. Bufurt is gone. If the voters decide to give Mochen the most votes, so be it.

My point is - that more than 50% of the people in Ashe will never have any interaction with the Sheriffs office. The county department I use the most is the landfill dumpster sites. Once a week. I only interact with a deputy if I'm on jury duty - every ten years.
The Sheriffs office in not as important as they are trying to make it. It's not the FBI or CIA they will be running. I'd bet that managing Hardee's would be more stressful.

If Mochen gets elected it could be Bufurt chapter two.

We might be able to close that chapter May 8. The same folks that backed Bufurt are now backing Mochen, the Drama Queen, for Sherriff.

This is 2018. 2017 is history. He's gone. Time to close that chapter

Were you here in 2017? A respected elected Sherriff retired. 3 corrupt members of the BOC gave us the official select. A walking dumpster fire that we call Bufurt. Bufurt fired or ran off over 30 employees at the SO. He irked every other branch of county government including the BOE. By the time he resigned he had barely enough employees to keep the jail open and a skeleton crew on each patrol shift. That s where the drama comes from.

Bla bla bla. This sheriffs race is ridiculous. Statements like "under my administration" "heal all the wounds" etc.
The Ashe County Sheriffs Department is not special. There are 99 more in North Carolina, 3500 around the United states and 10's of thousands world wide.
Hire some guys - get them tan shirts an brown pants - give them a gun - tell them not to shoot any blind drunk people. Send them out in white cars - tell them to bring in all the bad guys doing bad things to the jail. Leave the rest of the people alone.
That's it. Easy as ABC 123. Where did all this drama the candidates have come from?

I wasn't saying it was good or bad, I was just sharing the announcement so others could read and make up their own minds.

Let's face it......the job comes with power, prestige and more power. THAT is the REAL reason someone runs for sheriff.

JR, Houck is a good Ashe County name, seems to have good experience and relevant training. It will be interesting to see what some of the sleuths on this board dig up about Mr. Houck and his family.

Lightfoot, I know it’s a standard question, and yeah, the real answer would never get them elected. But I’d just once like to see a bit more honesty from one of them.
Personally I think Hendrix’s answer had the most BS to it. I never buy the “I just want to serve” answer from anyone for any job. As for Howell and Munchkin though, they both said what they want to change but nothing about why they wanted to change stuff in the first place.
