The best interest of the middle and lower class is learning there is a world past the 421 intersection. The schools need leadership that will encourage them to set goals higher than working at Walmart

So not one of the local wealthy ones, Jack?
Don't you think the best interests of the middle to lower socioeconomic kids are the priority there?

Most superintendents in the mountain counties tend to not stay long because they are all starter jobs

Yes, because it's not a good school system. It's a starter job. It's either a career starter, or career death.

Superintendents recruited from outside the county have a tendency to not stick around too long.

The next superintendent should come from some institute in Switzerland or a remedial education incubator at a research university in Cambridge, New Haven or the U.K.

In the arena of education, no one from Ashe should be in charge of that.

Peterson is retired and doesn't live in Ashe any longer.

Fins I think we know one of those pickle juice picks as "Blanch".

I'm a big proponent of county jobs going to county residents. But, there's a lot to be said for hiring these types of positions from the outside.

Callie Grubb? Sandra Peterson? **** Pennington? Roy Putnam? Current county principals? Are we thinking someone local or would a fresh perspective be a better fit?

Its been proven we dont have to require a Phd for the job. We just dont want them to double as a bus driver.

I hope the candidate pool has a few folks who have previous system level administrative experience and certification. Being a well educated instructor is not very high on the list of being a capable and innovative system level leader. Being an adequate to excellent school level administrator is a much better indicator for success at the system level.

The main issue that Dr. Simmons would likely face would be the same nepotism criticisms that Yates and her family has dealt with. Otherwise, I think she would be a strong candidate for the job.

Ashe County has produced some other fine educational leaders. What about Bobby Ashley, Bradley McNeill, Courtlyn Reeves? And don't we have some teachers with PhD's, Dr. Grubb maybe? Hopefully some of these good people are in the applicant pool!

No idea. I microdosed last night. I don't recall much. Was someone fired?
