I’m registered as a Republican, like all the way back to great granddaddy when it was a minority and bad for business. But ve realized I’m much more of a libertarian, or independent. On many issues I’m as far right as one can go. But I haven’t changed the registration due to tradition.

Great post Fins. I lean one way. You lean another. But in most cases we both lean toward the middle. I think everybody needs to seek this middle ground. That is how this country was built. Compromise. Making the best decision for the most people. Democracy in action.

The village idiots problem is not with the Ashe county line but with Ken Lynn. One of the only people I can think of that really has had a problem with Ken Lynn is Roark aka Elmer Fudd.

The problem is education by its very nature creates open mindedness. So the more education one has, the more you are willing to consider other ideas. The more you consider other ideas, the more you fall into the “liberal” label. I know plenty of educated open minded conservatives. Like open minded moderates or open minded liberals they have their opinions on fiscal policies and social programs, but mostly are for letting people do their own things and pick their own paths. For example, I may not think gay marriage is right, but I don’t have to marry a man either.

Now, the big issue really comes in with the ignorant. They see everyone that disagrees with them as a problem. Differing views, differing opinions, as dangerous to their way of life.

Personally, after having a few head to head battles with Lightfoot on this site, he does a good job keeping his work as unopinionated. The best that about anyone can anyway. also, I think he’s pretty moderate, maybe with some right leanings. Lynn may be a democrat, but his Op-Ed’s are fairly logical with nonpartisan biase.

If you think the AsheCounty Line is liberal, try reading a few books. They will do you good

I think the ACL will be hard pressed to find a conservative columnist At some point they would have to defend the criminal behavior by Roark, Rose, Perry, Yearick, and Buchanan. I do not think any self respecting conservative will do that. I know that if those folks were Democrats, I would not defend their selfish actions.
