You dum moroon, nothing prevented him from qualifying. Never mind that the annual qualification is so simple, you could probably do it. The controversy was he didn't have a BLET certification, which is required in NC for a LEO to hold a job. But the high sheriff isn't a LEO. He's an administrator.
Red Lyons was sheriff in Watauga for nearly 30 years, had been a deputy before that, and never wore a uniform as sheriff. And neither did the two sheriff's to follow him.

More of the law according to Fin. If you are a law enforcement official you are required to qualify annually in order to carry a firearm on duty. What is a sheriff a frigging bail bondsman? Stop fabricating non-existent statutes, you're like a nasty deceitful little boy lying through his teeth when caught with his hand in the cookie jar. You can't face facts and you're incapable of telling the truth. a real dyed in the wool Trumpoid.

Except your information was wrong Dilbert. You need to stop getting information from the Hardee's rumor mill. If you would bother to look into the state statutes, there is nothing preventing a sheriff from carrying a firearm.
And btw, your information that's always gone around had nothing to do with qualifying. It was about BLET certification. If you are going to spread rumors, and least repeat them correctly.

These two clowns Fin and Dog are completely motivated by their distorted political leanings, none of their postings make sense. My original posting on this thread was a criticism of the sheriff's dept. in which I used some examples to make a point. Do they want the names of the others I referred to? If so they can kiss my arse. Anyone that has lived in this county for any length of time knows who I am referring to, if you haven't been here that long then shut up. I really don't care what various sheriffs wear I just happen to know what one sheriff's reason was for not wearing his uniform. Dog's remark about black sheriffs shows him to be an out and out racist, he reminds me of the sheriff in pursuit in Smokey and the Bandit.

I will back up slightly. Checking sources looks like it's now maybe about half have gone back to wearing uniforms and half wear business dress, thanks to all the "law and order" propaganda going on. Especially down East in the old democrat counties.

I'll save you some gas panky, look on the sheriffs websites around the state. You may be shocked to see how many black sheriffs there are in the state. hint---most every democrat county.
What is your problem with the sheriff that you cant even say his name? He bust your hind side once upon a time panky?

A better plan would be that you drive around the state and visit each office. Go ahead. We will wait

Fin, are you suggesting that if I google various county's sheriff's offices they will tell me know if their sheriff wears uniform on duty? Are you out of your freaking mind? Silly question of course you are.

Any sheriff wearing a uniform for his daily job Is laughed at openly like Barney Fife. Only the backwoods podunk sheriffs do it.

Then once again, you've proven how ignorant you are, Dilbert. Google each county's sheriff's office.

Again Fin you're making stuff up as you go along. Since the Trump mismanaged Corona Virus outbreak and the Trump instigated riots countless sheriffs have been on TV, I have only seen one in civilian clothes.

You moroon, most sheriff's information NC don't wear a uniform and haven't since the 70's. It's an administrative position. If you want to be ridiculed as a sheriff, wear a uniform. The more you post, the more you expose your ignorance.

He thought that wearing the uniform without the gun would make him a target of ridicule, what he didn't know was that he's a target of ridicule anyway.

So which is it that you are going to complain about Dilbert? The uniform or the gun? Try picking one and staying on track.

Btw, your rant was about him not wearing a uniform. There is no requirement for a uniform officer to have a gun anyway. See, you're talking out of your *** again.

Nope. You really should look up what the state says about the position of high sheriff, Dilbert.

Once again Fin writes law for NC hoping people will believe him, If you carry a gun on official business in this and most other states you are required to qualify annually.
Fin, stop making stuff up to fit your inane arguments.

Btw, the job of sheriff is an administrative job, not a law enforcement job according to the state. The sheriff isn't required to have any law enforcement training or certification. He is still allowed to carry a gun as sheriff. You've been listening to too many rumors at Hardee's.
