Legal Issues of Interest to Seniors & Caregivers
Public Event
A forum on legal issues of interest to seniors and caregivers will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 5, at Ashe Services for Aging by presenter Tate Davis, an attorney with Payne Law Firm. Participants will learn about the legal issues involved with preparing a formal family caregiver agreement. Davis will speak about the importance of caregiver contracts and how to comply with Medicaid rules as well as employment and tax regulations. Properly drafted contracts can allow seniors to remain in their own home while fairly compensating family members for their hard work as caregivers. The forum is presented by the High Country Caregiver Foundation, which plans to host several more events in the area, presenting new topics to educate families on how to help seniors stay safely in their homes as long as possible.
