I wasn't out of power for weeks during Hugo, heck I worked at Pizza Hut then and was at work the next day. My dad was like oh you won't have to go but call and I had to go.

As for preparation, I keep a good amount of can goods on hand anyway. So if something turned bad I just rely on that. I have some water too for emergencies.

But I do think most of the politicians are making a lot of noise because it's close to an election, they dont' want to be seen as those in New Orleans were when Katrina hit.

Based on Current Projections it looks like it will hit near Wilmington then head towards Greenville then out into TN and KY, from what I saw it will lose Hurricane and possibly Tropical Storm before moving west of us, anything east of the eye is where the damage will most occur and yes if you live in that path then you probably should be either leaving or making sure you are ready.

The key is to be always prepared, in our modern society folks have gotten used to going to the store daily. Heck back growing up there were weeks we didn't leave home because of snow. Just depends on what you grew up under I guess how you view preparation.

Predicting a storm path is as much art as science, you'll know for sure once the event has passed though what the winds and rain totals were. You are a lot better off heeding the warnings and preparing for the worst case possible, we have had 7-10 days of warning concerning this storm, if you have not prepared don't belittle folks who have been observant and made preparations.

Runs on grocery stores, gas stations and the like are caused by lack of preparation, It is well known that this time of year there will be significant storms which may impact this area, during the winter months we also know there are chances of significant cold weather events with will impact us.

You always have to keep the bar stocked and have non-perishable food available "just in case"
JR you prep the way you'd like and we'll prep the way we like when it is all over, you can tell us I told you so, or you can ask us for help. Makes no difference to me.

Also, they are talking about this storm stalling and lingering for at least a couple days, just dropping water. The flooding is predicted to be at the same level as the 40’s flood. And at the coast they are talking about measuring the rain in feet instead of inches.

Jr I'm not sure where in the county you lived, but there were several without power for over a week. School was out for a week or longer.

I honestly think they are creating unnecessary panic. I mean even when Hugo came through power wasn't out for a week. This storm will be far less than that with winds around 15 to 20 mph and maybe about the same amount of rain we had what was it last week around 5-8 inches.
