Surety Bondsmen ( those who write for a insurance company) can do cash bonds as long as they are not for child support or marked US currency only by the judge. The maximum a bondsmen can charge is 15%. Most bondsmen require a indemnitor that is some one to sign to stand good for the bond. If a bondsmen tries to charge you extra for his travel or other expenses he is breaking the law. Some bondsmen will take a check if it is from a local bank and they the party involved.

If your bond is a property bond it will be in the online register of deeds records. Use Pam Barlow, Trustee as a search term.

No you cannot post your own bond. Someone else has to post it for you, and the bondsmen DO NOT take checks unless they are cashiers checks.

I remember a situation back in the early 70's, where a guy from Alabama was arrested on bad check charges. The magistrate on duty took a check from his wife. Turned out that check wasn't any good either. I think Herb Francis told me the bank did not even exist. Far as I remember, their names were fake, and neither one was ever seen or heard from again.

I looked at it afic, three ways to bond out of jail. 1) land, 2) bondsman who requires 10%, 3) pay the entire bond with a signature. Except on cash bond must have a witness. I stand corrected!

Being incorrect sent the same as lying, Transplant.

Skittles, I don’t think you are correct on that one. I’ve heard a few cases where guys wrote a check for their own bail.

Fairplay, just so you know I've been there done that. Had the money in hand on a cash bond still had to have someone sign even to use a bondsman.

Thats right, call ACSO ask to speak to the magistrate on call ask them. You can not sign, pay money or put up your land even if its debt free for your own bond.

SKS Are you saying, that if I were to be arrested, given a $10,000 bond, I could not just give the court the money and go home?

Of course I’m right. I’m always right.

Afic you'd be correct. I can tell you this an inmate can not go on their own bond. Might call some of the local bondsman and ask if they went on this individual bond. Might not tell you.

Yee Yee!

I don’t think that shows up anywhere.
