Good one there Cooper. My kind of humor. A tad racist, but funny in the context it was presented.

I get mine from a hardwood floor factory. 4 to 8 Inch scraps of cherry. Great for smoking.

If you want wood 12 inches long and three inches thick you will have to go to the South side of Winston-Salem or Charlotte.

I bet the sawmill on 221 just before Idelwild Rd would have some Hickory scrap laying around.

Yeah, I know there is one around somewhere, but I forgot the guy's name or where exactly they are at.

You may need to find a firewood yard that cuts and splits it for commercial sales and get them to custom cut your wood.

A stick smoker has a firebox on the side and uses stick wood. Pure wood fire, no gas or electric heat. Typically they are barrel style with a box on the end. You can get smokers that use gas or electric for the heat and then use chips or pressed discs in a pan to get the smoke. Those are easier and you can keep your heat more consistent. But they are looked down on by the purests and competitors. I don't want to compete, but I like the challenge of wood fire. The stick pieces though need to be small. Around 12 to 18 inches long, and preferably less than 3 inch diameter. Maybe a little bigger around, but not much. Most of the time you keep the heat under 250, so you have to keep the fire small

What is a stick smoker and how much wood does it use?

I've been thinking about getting a stick smoker. But I don't want to do it if I can't find a source for wood. And no, I'm not going to cut my own. That's a good way to ruin an enjoyable hobby anyone know of a source?
